Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For such a small school, the athletics here are really good. This is definitely an athletic student body. The Division I hockey teams (men’s and women’s) are always competitive, and everyone gets psyched for their games. The women’s soccer team is stellar, as is the men’s football team. The advantage of coming to a small school is that prices for tickets won’t put a hole in your wallet, and the competition is just as equal as a larger school.

Athletics are a big part of many students’ lives here at Union, and the school takes that seriously. Intramurals are also very popular at Union. Soccer, softball, broomball, and basketball are the most popular intramural activities on campus. The Minerva Houses also compete with each other, especially in the broomball league (like hockey, minus the skates, and with a broom and a grapefruit-sized ball). A large percentage of students get involved with either a college team or an intramural team such as softball, soccer, or a broomball tournament at some point in college. There are definitely lots of opportunites to participate in athletics at Union, and most of the time, you have a blast doing it.

Union Athletics

Union has a lot of great athletics and it appears the nearly every student is involved in one of their many varsity sports. Their is the feeling that most athletes think they are better than non-athletes at Union. Because Union has a division 1 hockey team these games are fun and exciting, and provide a great social event for the weekend.

The teams are good and are well attended. Our D1 hockey teams are so fun to watch and are something that makes Union unique to all other small liberal arts colleges.

Most Popular Sports

Hockey, lacrosse, and football are the most popular sports for students to watch at Union.

Most Overlooked Teams

Women’s soccer at Union is overlooked probably because no one really likes to watch women’s sporting events. The team always consists of a great bunch of athletes who are in tip-top shape and have typically gone far in their seasons, in terms of tournament play.

School Spirit

When it comes to athletics on campus, especially hockey games, the student body gets involved. Students love to go to the games, harass the other team, and cheer our ladies and gents on. As for other activities on campus, many students would describe Union’s student body as apathetic when it comes to concerts, plays, and other non-sports-related entertainment. That doesn’t mean that no one attends these activities, though, so don’t feel discouraged.

Getting Tickets

It is very easy and inexpensive to get tickets to games here at Union. Hockey is really the only sport that requires a ticket to get into the games, but they are not impossible to come by at all.
