Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The girls here are very good looking, in general. They are polished and well dressed on the whole, but they can also be very prim as well, although there are exceptions to that statement. The guys at Union are a mixed bag. You’ll get a polo-wearing jock, a few pop-punk rockers, and many laid-back, wear-what-doesn’t-smell-bad dressers. The guy/girl ratios are pretty equal at Union, too. Plus, add the fact that Union is a small school, and you could be in for a great four years at Union.

Hooking up is a big part of the social scene, but it will be not matter what college you attend. Until you become an upperclassman (or are a particularly cool underclassman) and start attending house parties with friends, the social scene at Union is very much alcohol-driven and hormone-laden. Quality is always an issue, but if you’re going to a party to meet people, chances are you’re not going to be looking for an A+ personality. The best way to meet people is through friends, class, and quieter parties. If you are going to party at Union, learn how to dance and keep up with the top 10 songs on the radio. The frats can seem like a meat market, but if you’re just looking for a good time, then you can find it. Relationships at Union happen, but this is definitely not a couples’ school.

Hot, but Don't Look for Love

Your typical guy is a jock who's driven by the fraternity scene, similar to the girls. The girls are your typical suburban, sweatshirt and ugg-wearing girls with scarves and expensive bags. The guys and girls love to party and have random hook-ups, which is good if you're not looking for anything serious. But don't expect to find respectable relationships on campus.

Typical Preppy School

Almost all girls here are gorgeous! It is hard to turn the corner and not see a hott girl. Everyone dresses to impress, except for classes. In classes you see people dress up but most people are in sweats

Facts

Social Scene

The students here are very outgoing. In general, everyone is pretty nice. People hold the doors for other students and are pretty willing to make small talk with strangers. When it comes to the party scene, Union students often cite the mantra, "work hard, play hard," which is very accurate since the academics are tough, it only makes sense to play hard as well. Students spend their social time by going to frat parties, the bars, and house parties. Once the kinks between the frats and the Minerva Houses get ironed out, great parties should become the norm at the Minerva Houses. Don't forget that Union is a pretty small place, and after a few years, everyone knows everyone else. So if you can handle seeing the same group of people at the type of parties that you like to go to, this is the place for you. If you're more about meeting new people every weekend, you're probably better off looking for a larger school.

Hookups or Relationships?

There are lots of random hookups, but many freshmen and drunken hookups lead to relationships here at Union. Students everywhere seem to be struggling with knowing exactly what they want in terms of either hooking up or a relationship. Again, it's a small school, so don't think you can casually spend the night without people knowing the moment you take the "walk of shame" back to your dorm.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Students meet people in the Campus Center, but the best places are at the bars, frats, and house parties. Another great place to meet people is in class. Students take academics very serious here, and most people are willing to form study groups with other students or just help each other out at any time during the term. Student Activities also makes it easy to meet people. They set up concerts, comedians, speakers, and a whole host of other fun and interesting activities on campus where kids can meet each another. Also, friends study in groups at the library, so if you set out to cram with a friend who happens to know a cute blond, meet at the library and take a break to get a cup of coffee at the campus center.

Did You Know? Guys and girls alike dress pretty preppy here, but there are those select few who have an outrageous fashion sense and flaunt it, too. Sure, they stick out among the Polo T-shirts and Seven jeans, but students appreciate that streak of color in a pool of uniformity.
