Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students seem to tolerate the food at West Point, and the accent is on the word tolerate. The meals at the Academy are certainly nothing to write home about. Maybe the administration is just cheap, or maybe they’re trying to prepare cadets for life in the Army. Whatever the reason, cadets can be sure their meals will be filling if nothing else. Complaints about cafeteria food are common among college students all over the United States, and it is no different at West Point. The mess hall merely provides everyday meals to fulfill the necessary caloric intake requirements. And instead of gaining the dreaded Freshman 15, like most other college students, several freshmen at West Point actually report losing 15 pounds. This could be considered an upside to mess hall dining.

Although the majority of students are satisfied by the services provided at the mess hall, several of them rave about the quality of the meals that they receive when special guests come to visit West Point. There is a clear difference in quality and variety on special days. And, according to the majority of the cadets at West Point, nearly all of the money that they receive from their cadet pay goes to ordering out. There is, of course, one very nice bonus to choosing to eat in the mess hall: it’s free. Even if money isn’t an object for you, don’t plan on eating out too much; there are required meals for students on campus.

Cadet Mess Hall

The food is really very good. The buffets are all you can eat or carry out, and everything is free. Really diverse food, steak is served usually 1x/wk, different "culture" nights every Tuesday, lots of banquets w/great menus. Great lunch meals. Breakfast needs work but overall good.

The food is simply amazing. One could get tired of eating at the dining hall, but you are squeezed into a huge ancient building along with every other person on campus and feed in less than 30 minutes. It is a nearly impossible feat. There is also a snack place if you need something late at night. And the only McDonalds that delievers is right off of the base.
