Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students agree that West Point is extremely diverse. Even though West Point only has a student body of approximately 4,000 cadets, students come from across the United States. There is also a large international population. At West Point, you will meet students with all sorts of backgrounds. Because of policy and procedure, excessive display of political tilts in either direction is discouraged most times. The campus does not openly accept or attack homosexuality, as per national military policy. Although many cadets seem to come from very privileged families, it’s like any other private school; there are those choice few who come from nothing. Monetarily, it is less diverse than some other colleges, but this factor is not as influential as it is in some private schools.

According to most students, one of the great things about West Point is the diversity that exists. This diversity gives you the opportunity to learn about different cultures and values. On a daily basis, you will interact with people of different races, religions, and backgrounds. Even if, at times, it seems like everyone at West Point is the same, each cadet does have a unique story and perspective on life. During downtime, students at the Academy appreciate interactions with people from across the United States and even the globe.
