Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Overall, most cadets have a social void. There are no fraternities or sororities on campus. The closest thing to either one of these is the Firstie Club, a club on post for upperclass cadets. The Firstie Club is actually more of a sports bar than anything else; it is definitely not a club in the conventional sense. While a lot of the cadets actually abstain from drinking, there are definitely those cadets that are very dissatisfied with the limited opportunities to go out and have fun. According to some of the cynical ones, only West Point knows how to make drinking not fun.

Bottom line—there is no Greek life at West Point. If that is your scene, don’t go to the Academy because it is literally nonexistent. If you can settle for the feeling of brotherhood and the experience of being part of a larger entity without the Greek title and traditions, then you will do fine. But otherwise, stay away. Stay far, far away.

There Is None

Being a military school, there is no party scene, no soroties, no frat houses, no greek life on campus. We live in dormitories with men and women on separate floors if at all possible and doors must always be open.

Ha! Greek life? Listen to some of these questions. What is next? You are kidding, right? I don’t even think that some of these people know what alcohol and sex are. You must be kidding.

There are so many rules and regulations in place that make it too risky for most cadets to consider underage drinking or drinking irresponsibly. For example, if you were to get caught drinking underage, that would result in an honor board. More than likely, you would get kicked out. If you got a DUI, you would more than likely get the boot, too.
