College Prowler Take
The food in the dining halls on campus leaves much to be desired. The food is fattening, and at times, very tasteless. On the other hand, they cater to vegetarians and to students who maintain a Kosher diet. During finals week, the dining halls reopen at midnight to serve free snacks to students who’d like a study break. Each quad (housing complex) has its own dining hall for the convenience of the students. Another food option available to students is the food court located in the Campus Center. The food court contains some familiar places, like Burger King, Sbarro’s, Au Bon Pain (serves a variety of soups), and Freshëns (frozen yogurt, ice cream, and frozen drinks). Ritazza is a coffee shop that also serves desserts and gourmet sandwiches. It’s a great place to lounge on the couches in the café, drink coffee, and get some studying done in between classes. Zepp’s Sandwich Shoppe is great for a quick sandwich or meatball hero. The best place to get a sandwich is from Outtakes Quick Cuisine. Their Boar’s Head meat is delicious, and they have a wide variety of breads and rolls. The store also sells foods, cleaners, tissues, and other necessities for the dorm room. Dreidel’s Kosher Kafe is great for a morning bagel with flavored cream cheese, but the line can get rather long.

The food on campus is okay. Dining hall food is dining hall food—nothing special. If you wait until later at night, you can meal trade in the campus center for somewhat better food.

The food here is gross. There are wraps in the dining hall, but you have to wait in a long line, and the lettuce is old and gross. The Campus Center is okay. Zepp's has more long lines, which take over an hour on Saturday nights. When there are special dinner nights, you should go because it's probably the only time you will get food thats not half bad.

There is Sbarro’s, Wendy’s, a deli, a bagel store, Mexican food—basically everything but Chinese food. The dining halls are pretty crappy sometimes. |

Chartwell’s is the school’s food service provider, and they provide the worst food. The dining halls are horrible and have horrible selections. The Campus Center is not too bad, but how much Sbarro’s and Wendy’s can one really eat in a week? |

Did You Know?If you live on campus at Albany in any of the traditional housing dorms (Indian, State, Colonial, and Dutch Quads) you are required to have a meal plan. Albany offers Munch Money, which works as a debit card in any on campus dining facilities. Both meal plans and Munch Money work by simply swiping your ID card. There are meal plans offered for off-campus residents as well, which offer combinations of meal swipes and munch money.
