College Prowler Take
The University has more than 300 computers in its labs, and at least another 700 throughout the school for students to use in classrooms and libraries. Classes are very computer interactive, with programs like ‘WebCT’ and ‘myUAlbany’ for students and faculty alike to take advantage of. Although the computer labs are rarely full and it is quite easy to find an available computer, it has been recommended by the school that each student bring a computer. Computer labs are not open 24 hours a day, so for the procrastinator or late-night worker that does not pose much convenience.
Each dorm room has access to a wireless router and is wired with a T1 connection for students to connect to the University’s network. The connection is extremely fast, and faces few glitches. It is rare for the connection to fail or be down for any period of time longer than a half an hour.

The network is generally good and fast, and the computer labs are crowded but accessible. A computer of your own is recommended only if you’ll want to use it for something other than schoolwork (games, music), because the school’s computers are not too hard to come by when they’re needed. |

Definitely bring your own computer, it will be more beneficial to you. Computer labs aren’t always crowded, but sometimes they can be. The network is pretty fast all of the time. Sometimes we experienced problems with connecting, but that was very rarely. |

I’ve passed by the labs a few times, and people who I have known to use them say they do what they need to. However, everywhere on campus is wired, so it would behoove one to bring their own computer if possible. |

I suggest bringing your own computer. It makes college life much easier and fun. You can talk to your buddies online at any time. Your network connection is great and fast for all those songs you want to download. The computer labs are not open 24 hours for when you need to pull an all-nighter, and yes, you will at some point. During midterms and finals, they are crowded. |
