Not My Type of People.

I personally do not find many of the people at Albany that interesting. The boys are nice to look at (sometimes, and that's a BIG sometimes), but overall, there's not much there besides looks. They mainly come to class dressed as bums (pjs, sweatpants, gym clothes, etc.) and you can tell that they didn't shower for a day or two. There are alot of couples on campus but if you keep going your way, you can ignore the PDA.

There are three types of girls at Albany: the girls who wear too little clothing, the girls who dress like bums (alot like the boys' wear) and the girls who have the decency to dress appropriately. Many try to look to cute for school and dress like they're always going out. Last time I checked, school is for learning, not seeing who can look the most like the Jersey Shore cast.

I Don't Like It Here but Other People Love It

I don't see whats so great about this school, although the education is good most of my college professors expect me to learn more from the textbook than from what they actually teach me. Some of my classes have at least 400 people, a large amount of these people don't care about their education because they talk and use their laptops to go on facebook or play games. The only positive thing about having such a small campus is that you can wake up 10 minutes before class and make it on time. The worst part about the campus is that nothing is in walking distance from the campus which requires you to wait for a bus. They claim that this school is full of extracurricular activites but I have found none that seem interesting whatsoever. My social life is the worst part of this school because no body is very friendly and the night life sucks because you need to fight to get onto a bus to go to the ghetto downtown only to pay 5-10 dollars to go to a lama party in a basement. Overall if you are looking for a good bargain, live close to Albany, and are really good at making friends I will Reccomend this school to you, for others I would strongly suggest reviewing your options before choosing Suny Albany

PLEASE RUN!!!

I applied to this school as a transfer student. I went to a school out of state that had a lot of parties and it was very expensive so I decided to come back to NYC and get the best of both worlds (cheap and fun) I heard all about the parties and that this is a very diverse SUNY. This is the exact opposite!!! After an event called kegs & eggs which all hell broke loose; all the parties get shut down before 12 (if you're lucky) and there is no diversity in these parties. I am mixed; but predominantly african american. These parties cater to caucasians (so if you're white you should be alright) the weather here is brutal so you cannot dress as freely as you'd please. The clubs are 21+ and if you don't have car; taxi cabs will be your best friend! And if there is an 18+ club the students don't know how to act which prolongs the process of them checking us and letting us in or in some cases prohibiting us from getting in the club at all. The bouncers at some of these clubs (Simply Fish & Jazz) to be exact will try to extort you and make you pay more for what you are entitled to; which is entry into the establishment. My god this school is nothing like I thought it would be. My advice...RUN!

Not Exactly What I Was Expecting

My experience at the University at Albany was not one that I particularly cherish as a substantial part of my life. Whilst the population is diverse, there is a huge student body and it can be a little overwhelming at times.

Campus housing is undesirable, rooms are small and cramped and living can become frustrating at times. Poor planning and execution has left some rooms lacking space for desks and dressers. The food however, is plentiful and palpable, and there is a wide range of on campus dining available; from Dining halls to Wendy's, Sushi and Soup.

Nightlife in Albany is quite disappointing. Unless a freshman has established connections with upperclassmen, partying on campus is pretty much non existent. Downtown Albany is where the frats and other houses that host the parties are located. Success with entrance to these parties are based on two things; gender and luck. If you are a girl, youll probably gettin for free, guys 5 at the door. The environment of downtown isn't the greatest either, Albany is the real deal.

Aside from the social and living portions of Albany, it is after all a University. While they may not be the greatest professors around, most of those tenured at Albany do express a desire to teach. Some do seem to lack the compassion or empathy for their students, however this is likely to be found at any university.

For the most part, the faculty does try, but the fall somewhat short in certain realms.

So in short, the dorms are poor, dining is quite good, the nightlife is lacking greatly and the academia is fair.

Not as Interesting

Very limited bar/club scenes especially for those below age 21. Transportation is quite a burden if one does not have a car of their own. one is left to pay for cabs to and fro the club/bar.

Excellent Programs in the Humanities, Math and Sciences. Well-Known for Business School.

The school offers excellent programs within certain departments. The Mathematics and Physics Departments feature advanced courses that will prepare students for graduate study. The school also features many exceptional professors, although some who excel within their professional fields are not neccessarily the most talented or enthusiastic educators. Additionally, large lecture classes and poor coordination between primary and complementary classes can make it difficult to develop a cohesive curriculum of study. In addition, recent budget cuts have caused the school to cut certain majors in the Arts, while the costs of their atheletic programs (football) and operating costs (construction) remain high.

Financial Market Regulation

If you are interested in the regulatory aspect of finance then this is for you. It requires an interdisiplinary approach and mindset. You have a lot of reading to do and a lot of math and IT work. Internships are easy to find with guest speakers and help from staff.

Very Academically Challenging

Albany clearly has a good reputation for being ranked 125th for academics and provides all types of classes. However, the classes are intense with work and some times the teachers pile the work load to a simple subject to the maximum capacity. I can say that is clearly a challenging school that will reflect the work you put into your classes.

I chose the University at Albany because their psychology program is one of their main majors, the campus is a sight to see, and all of the professors are very good at what they do. I have had a pretty good experience there.

These girls are not girls, they've definately matured past that stage into Adulthood. Though mature physically (and often augmented quite nicely in the chest area with the wonderful technology of silicone) they seem to lack all moral and ethical barriers that might prevent them from their favorite activities and pastimes.

Great Programs (Not So Great TA's)

I came to the university at ALbany for a distinct number of reasons. I'd first like to point out that my transfer to the University was motivated by the desire to get a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science .... If i were to have gotten a bachelor of Arts in Computer Science... it just wouldn't have sat right in my logical cerebellium.

The TA's teach the classes...professors are almost never available as they're all doing their own research projects and push the course workload almost exclusively to the direction of their appointed TA's

Local Atmosphere

The University at Albany is located about 5 minutes from downtown Albany which in my opinion is far enough to keep residential and college life separate but close enough to enjoy what the city has to offer. There are an average amount of on campus activities for students to participate in but there is always room for improvement. The local attitude towards the students at our school is positive I believe, however there was so criticism after the incidents that happened in march during the 'Kegs and Eggs' weekend and the St. Patrick's Day parade.

Diversity in UA

The diversity at UA is mixed and the people who usually attend are either poor and got in for free or are upper middle class/middle class. There are very different political beliefs among the school. Also, the people who reside in upstate NY usually tend to hate the students from Long Island and vise versa, accents get made fun of, etc.

Wouldnt Change a Thing

Albany is a very large school that offers the most various experiences that a student can imagine. There are clubs that pertain to any hobby or interest a student may have. The staff and students that attend this university are respectful and caring and really show you the true Albany experience. In my two years at this school so far I can honestly say that I wouldn't have chosen any other school to attend. I could never imagine obtaining my education anywhere besides SUNY Albany
