Housing cost is out of control. Housing is a racquet in Tuscaloosa. To find a home or apartment for the fall, one must start looking and make a deposit just after Christmas. Realtors realize this and price gouge. They also have ridiculous contracts that protect them and the renter is at their mercy!

Transportation is adequate. Parking is terrible and parking permits for school are excessive as compared to other schools.

Large school with a lot to offer. Several towns within 60 miles that offer museums, shopping, and just about anything else.

Weather is usually fine. There are tornado's and rain but not much different than any other area of the country

UA has block tuition scholarships based on SAT scores; i.e. if you have a 1400 composite score, you get free tuition, and if you have a 1350, you get 2/3 of tuition, etc. There are also a lot of scholarships available departmentally.

Some places, like Bryant and the Ferg, are really good. Others, like Burke, are just okay, and Lakeside isn't very good. So it really depends on where you go. There are also a lot of dining options on-campus that aren't dining halls, and those are obviously really good.

I get annoyed by the greek system, but I give it the best rating because it's the most affluent and biggest panhellenic system in the country. It definitely dominates sometimes, but the majority of students are not greek, so you don't have to join a fraternity or sorority to have fun.

Greek life at Alabama is close to being the best in the nation. Considering slightly more than half are in the Greek community here, joining a Fraternity or Sorority will help you integrate into an influential, widespread campus network.

I wish I had someone to tell me the importance of internships

A strong number of buses are made available and student transportation is excellent. There is not enough parking on campus for students on and off campus or visitors.

Health & Safety:
Guards and security systems on campus are great, but drug policies and the policing of Greek life is poor.

All labs in my experience were well maintained and up to date.

Guys & Girls:
Predominately Greek. Unfortunate in my opinion, but enough variety in the massive student body for everyone.

Good variety of foods split between cafeterias, and numerous retail eateries on and off campus. However, the monotony of certain dining halls and overcrowding are detrimental.

I love my major. It is very popular and all the teachers are extremely knowledgeable and always willing to help students.

Financial aid isn't hard to attain here, but it could be improved.

Public transportation is really good around Tuscaloosa. They have buses running all the time and they're free.

Restaurants off campus are great. Most of them even have student discounts.
College Sophomore 2013-08-23T03:19:28Z
The teachers are helpful and easy to contact, and there are many programs to choose from.
College Sophomore 2013-08-23T03:17:00Z
The academics are challenging and diverse, taught by very capable professors who expect a decent work load, but nothing that cannot be accomplished with a little elbow grease.
College Sophomore 2013-08-23T03:14:40Z
The apartments are over priced. They are more than $1,000 a month not including utilities. This is not affordable for college students, because most of us are unemployed and already in debt from student loans.

The pay (if any), from my own experience, is a fraction of the pay if you're hired full-time. Conditions such as time commitment, responsibilities, and adherence to rules are usually similar to the way it would be as a full-time employee. The way you respond to your conditions are among the things assessed by the management during your internship. It's a great experience and exposes how you really feel about the major you declared three/four years ago.
