Tuscaloosa generally has excellent, sunny weather. I give it an A- rather than an A+ because it can be extremely hot during the summer. Also, the April 27 tornado ruined a lot of lives and everyone is afraid when bad weather comes.

Tuscaloosa has a lot to offer students. Its big enough to be anything you can make it. However, there is a very large part of town that should be avoided because it is not a very good part of town.

The University of Alabama seems to have a pretty fair police force. They are non intrusive but are there to help.

There are a lot of nice apartments. However, there are also a lot of crappy ones- and sometimes you can't tell they're crappy until you're living in them. Apartments close to campus are more expensive- and sometimes older and not as nice.

I love being a biology major. The teachers are wonderful, the research programs are wonderful, everything is wonderful. I just really don't care for the chemistry aspect (ugh, organic).

The process of getting into most majors at UA is ridiculously easy- you just declare it online. That's it.

The best in the nation! Fifteen Football National Championships. It's a school that's serious on athletics.

Health & Safety:
Everything is kept extremely clean and well kept. Average precautions are needed to be taken; however, there is very little crime activity that occurs on campus.

The problem of this University is the focus on certain things for security, rather than more educated reasons to help out. For example, this year there was a huge drug bust in a certain dorm. Also, there was a hault to stop a video of students dancing; however, an abortion protest was approved with a police officer patrolling it.

I gave an A- review for a certain reason. The University of Alabama is very expensive to attend, and even to live at off-campus. The off-campus options I believe are limited to overpriced apartments with close proximity to campus. Also, there are transportation to help.

Parking is a nightmare. Expensive, tough to find spots and you are likely to get a ticket for doing anything wrong.

The restaurants around Tuscaloosa are great and I haven't come across a terrible one yet.

So far I'm not too satisfied with the program I'm in. I love history but the courses that are offered are given first to those that have more credit hours. I don't think that it's fair for an underclassmen who needs to take some of these upper level classes to not have an equal opportunity to enroll in them unlike upperclassmen who can usually get whatever course they want whenever they desire.

Not sure. As a distance student I don't have to deal with parking, thankfully.

Distance Student perspective:
the online facilities are great. there is a wealth of information right at your fingertips, to the point that it is almost overwhelming sometimes. So far the faculty respond to e-mails within a very timely manner. The library and databases online are really good too.

As a distance student, I'm not sure how strictness is on campus, but my experience online thus far has shown that while there is strictness, there is also fairness. We are all adults and expected to adhere to basic common sense policies. So for the online student, open lines of communication are essential.
College Senior 2013-05-07T16:08:39Z
I am a distance student, so I do not have to deal with the transportation on campus. As a side note, I think that the survey should also be more applicable to distance students.

So far the financial aid that I have received has been more than sufficient. However, my first semester started in Spring 2013. So I'm hoping that year round the financial aid will be just as sufficient as it has been.

Crimson Ride is a decent campus transportation system. There are many routes that will take you virtually anywhere you will need to go on campus, or least close enough to get off and walk to your destination. There is also an after hours ride service that operates from 10:00PM to about 6:00AM.

At Alabama, sports are a huge part of the university, including football. In the fall, everything revolves around the football team and if you don't like football, this is not the place to go. There is a huge amount of fan support and students and players plan and prepare for games all week long until Saturday's. There is tones of school spirit which can be seen all throughout the nation. The athletic facilities are one of their kind and even students are blessed enough to be able to use the same facilities as the athletes. There is nothing better than being a student fan of Alabama athletics.

Health & Safety:
I have always felt safe on campus, with police and security constantly going around campus looking for suspicious activity. There are numerous "blue phones" around campus that you can use to call or simply push a button if you are in danger and police immediately responds to the area. The campus is fully lighted and you always feel safe. Never once have I felt unsafe on this campus and officers go out of their way to make you feel safe and comfortable.

The university says that they enforce certain rules and regulations at school, however when it actually comes to it, not much is enforced and there are ways to get around many policies. If it is related to academics, the university is usually always on top of it, constantly having meetings with students who are suspicious of cheating and they are always enforcing the honor code. When it comes to student life, however, not many rules are enforced ad the only time they are is when serious violations come up.
College Sophomore 2013-05-04T04:28:14Z
There are almost always computers open at any library on campus! They are great and fast. You can even check out laptops at Gorgas Library!
College Sophomore 2013-05-04T04:27:00Z
Parking is a headache! Most of the parking lots are a good distance from campus making it hard to walk to classes. It is not unheard of if your assigned parking lot is closed for a week or even the entire semester. Thankfully there is the Crimson Ride which is great for those who do not have a car and live on campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
