Only athletes and national merit scholars receive scholarships

So far I'm not too satisfied with the program I'm in. I love history but the courses that are offered are given first to those that have more credit hours. I don't think that it's fair for an underclassmen who needs to take some of these upper level classes to not have an equal opportunity to enroll in them unlike upperclassmen who can usually get whatever course they want whenever they desire.

Not sure. As a distance student I don't have to deal with parking, thankfully.

Distance Student perspective:
the online facilities are great. there is a wealth of information right at your fingertips, to the point that it is almost overwhelming sometimes. So far the faculty respond to e-mails within a very timely manner. The library and databases online are really good too.

As a distance student, I'm not sure how strictness is on campus, but my experience online thus far has shown that while there is strictness, there is also fairness. We are all adults and expected to adhere to basic common sense policies. So for the online student, open lines of communication are essential.

I am a distance student, so I do not have to deal with the transportation on campus. As a side note, I think that the survey should also be more applicable to distance students.

So far the financial aid that I have received has been more than sufficient. However, my first semester started in Spring 2013. So I'm hoping that year round the financial aid will be just as sufficient as it has been.

Crimson Ride is a decent campus transportation system. There are many routes that will take you virtually anywhere you will need to go on campus, or least close enough to get off and walk to your destination. There is also an after hours ride service that operates from 10:00PM to about 6:00AM.

At Alabama, sports are a huge part of the university, including football. In the fall, everything revolves around the football team and if you don't like football, this is not the place to go. There is a huge amount of fan support and students and players plan and prepare for games all week long until Saturday's. There is tones of school spirit which can be seen all throughout the nation. The athletic facilities are one of their kind and even students are blessed enough to be able to use the same facilities as the athletes. There is nothing better than being a student fan of Alabama athletics.

Health & Safety:
I have always felt safe on campus, with police and security constantly going around campus looking for suspicious activity. There are numerous "blue phones" around campus that you can use to call or simply push a button if you are in danger and police immediately responds to the area. The campus is fully lighted and you always feel safe. Never once have I felt unsafe on this campus and officers go out of their way to make you feel safe and comfortable.

The university says that they enforce certain rules and regulations at school, however when it actually comes to it, not much is enforced and there are ways to get around many policies. If it is related to academics, the university is usually always on top of it, constantly having meetings with students who are suspicious of cheating and they are always enforcing the honor code. When it comes to student life, however, not many rules are enforced ad the only time they are is when serious violations come up.

There are almost always computers open at any library on campus! They are great and fast. You can even check out laptops at Gorgas Library!

Parking is a headache! Most of the parking lots are a good distance from campus making it hard to walk to classes. It is not unheard of if your assigned parking lot is closed for a week or even the entire semester. Thankfully there is the Crimson Ride which is great for those who do not have a car and live on campus.

great green space on the quad! and campus events like football games are crazy fun

They do catch people and look out for these people, but its easily done by all students.

Football at the University of Alabama is a huge deal. They have won the past National Championship in football. This sport is not just for the athletes. Everyone gets involved and as a great time on game days and supports the team and coaches. This helps the team play even better knowing their support system is huge!

I'd say it was okay except for the whole tornado incident. It was a really big event that really impacted the city as a whole. We lost a lot and are still trying to recover today. Ever since, the university takes storms very seriously and has often cancelled classes as a result.

Atmosphere is pretty typical of a college town. I find there's always something going on. Bars are a typical go to, but there are plenty of parties on and off campus as well.
College Senior 2013-04-30T00:15:50Z
Guys & Girls:
A lot of the students are greek... so most love to party and drink. Not all, but a majority do. It's been hard finding decent guys because most are immature and don't care about anything. Girls are somewhat obnoxious but I've made many friends that who's friendships I will value after leaving college. Just depends on where you're looking.

Drugs are not common at UA. However, like anywhere that you go, there are people that do drugs. Drinking alcohol is not encouraged, but it is much more common across campus.
College Sophomore 2013-04-28T23:26:20Z
Many of the buildings are new or recently renovated. Also, there are so many chances for research, internship, and co-ops that give a student access to a completely unique experience.
College Sophomore 2013-04-28T23:06:29Z
Greek life is relatively prominent on campus, but there are many different organizations to get involved with if greek life is not your thing. Also, there are large parties help by the fraternities and sororities that you can find a way to attend.

It is a wonderful college with wonderful professors. However, there are always those few professors that will be stubborn and hard headed. There are a few classes that will be extremely difficult to pass no matter what major you are in. However, there will also be many other wonderful professors who will do everything they possibly can to make sure that you pass their class while still learning their material. Overall it is a wonderful school to study at.
College Junior 2013-04-28T01:46:32Z
There is not a large drug scene at Alabama however, every now and then there may be a fraternity or sorority that gets busted for using drugs as part of their initiation process. Other than that occasional instance drugs make a rare appearance on campus. Drinking is a lot more common here than drugs.

It all depends on what dorm you get. There are new dorms that were just built last year, and two other dorm complexes that were built only a few years before that, one dorm complex even has a pool. However, there are some dorms that have been there for a very long time. There is even one set of dorms that too many people are taking hot showers at one time the fire alarms will go off. I believe that overall the dorms in general are very good and all of them are within walking distance to classes as well as a meal hall.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
