There is something we call "The Strip." It is within walking distance of campus, literally, the end of fraternities leads to it. There are many choices such as Buffalo Phils, Moes, TCBY, Subway, Hungry Howies, Pita Pit, and much more. Also, at the end of the strip there is a place called Thialand something or other, and on Thursday-Saturday nights they have midnight sushi from 11pm-1am, where sushi is only a dollar and everything else is under at least five dollars, everyone loves it and starts to line up outside at about 10pm. Most places on the strip accepts BamaCash, which is an option linked to your Action card (your university ID) and it is an account you or your parents can put money in for you to use. This is a convienient way to have money. Also, Buffalo Phils accepts dining dollars, which is another account set up through you Action card. Every student gets three hundrend dollars in dining dollars which you can use at all food places on campus and a select few place such as Dominoes and Buffalo Phils off campus.

There is a two lane highway between school and home for me.

Beautiful warm weather all year. Some rain and can get cold at night sometimes but mid 70s in December can get much better.

Bars are fun but get old soon if you are under 21. Almost everything is run through the greek system. Hard for freshmen males who are not in fraternities to do much in terms of parties,

If you like college football, the U of A is the place for you. The city of Tuscaloosa eats, breathes, and bathes in the Crimson Tide. Outside of the sport world, Tuscaloosa has a moderate number of outdoor activists that make such activities like mountain biking, running, and ultimate frisbee very visible.

This can be a very ambiguous topic to discuss. If you are searching for illicit activities, chances are you will probably be able to find them. If you seek to avoid them, then you most likely will be able to. The campus itself is well regulated so the only drugs you will likely run in would be alcohol consumption. That is nearly unavoidable, even within the dorms.

If you love the South that means you gotta love the food. The U of A is truly in the heart of dixie and that means soul food galore. Whether it's cheap, high quanitity, home-style grub or delicate southern dining, you have plenty of options nearby.

The athletics is very huge at UA, especially the football team. The school spirit is amazing and they have very supportive fans.
College Sophomore 2012-12-07T19:00:40Z
The bus system is ok at UA and there are plenty of stops. The buses are sometimes slow depending on the bus drivers, but they usually get you to class or your destination on time.

great variety; you can find almost anything to suit your tastes.

As a sports and exercise major, I am concerned for my future. UA has this major under the college of education. For those, including my self, that are not in this field to become a P.E. teacher find this alarming. The internship opportunities in this are are slim. If I could do this again I would have stayed in the D.C./ Baltimore area, which has the highest employment rate.

I didn't have any problems getting into this program. I, however, didn't start off at this college. I transferred colleges at the end of my Sophomore year and had already taken classes that this program offered. However, I don't think that anyone would have a hard time getting into this program. At Alabama, they have this neat little thing called DegreeWorks. DegreeWorks is something that is issued to you when you register. It is a list of EVERYTHING you have to take in order to complete the program that you have chosen. You are assigned an adviser and they help you from there. Anything medical probably has a time consuming process, but the College of Human Environmental Sciences is very friendly and has an easy step by step process.

If I could do it all over again, I would. The only difference is I am a transfer student to UA. If I could do it again, I would have gone there to begin with. Everything is so easy. The faculty and staff make everything interesting and fun, so it doesn't even seem like school. My career goals are to graduate, begin working with Day cares and Preschools and start writing curriculum's to help teachers find better ways to reach a preschooler's mind. I want to see child set off on the right path from a very young age. I want to see children being stimulated and maturing their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional skills. I would love to see that no child ever goes without the gift of education and the rewards that come with being educated. I would also like to educate parents on how to better their children's lives, regardless of Social Economic Status. I want to change the status quot. I want to see children thrive, and that's why I chose my major. I have a heart and passion for the betterment of Children, and I won't stop until I have done that. As for finding a job; I know without a doubt I WILL have a job when I graduate. My career field is in GREAT demand, and people like me are needed everyday in society. I've chosen a great career field and know that I am going to make something of my life AND make differences in other people's lives. I can't say that I'd change a thing about my choice to choose this program.

I am going to give this an A because UA is such a great school and they take pride and joy in seeing their students succeed. I personally haven't done my internship yet, but the Faculty member in charge of internships for the College of Human Environmental Sciences was a teacher of mine at a previous school and she is PASSIONATE about her job. She goes above and beyond to make sure her students have the best experiences ever! She also places them in everyday situations and real life experiences so they know exactly what they are getting into.
College Senior 2012-12-05T01:55:39Z
In the College of Human Environmental Sciences, the teachers really care about the students. They are all readily available for their students and care about the students on a personal level. I am a distance learner at UA, but one of my teachers Skype's with us to see how we're doing and if we need any help. I love the program I am enrolled in, and would recommend any degree from The University of Alabama.
On a side note... I am a military wife and travel a lot. All of my teachers are great about understanding if I can't get something done on time or if I need a few extra days to do an assignment. They are wonderful!

Greek Life Is Very Active On Campus. They All Have Websites Where You Can View Current Members And They Have Pictures Of Things They Have Done In The Community Through Their Service.

Parking At UA Is Horrible! There Is NO Parking By Any College And Even By The Residence Halls You Have To Come Home Before 8 To Get A Spot, If Not You Risk Parking On The Side Of The Curb And Getting A Ticket Or Parking 3 Or 4 Residence Halls Down And Walking 5 Minutes To Your Dorm...

Lots of restaurants, many, many choices. Down Town Tuscaloosa is very close to UA and the local restaurants are excellent and second to none. There are a lot of BBQ joints however and the vegetarian option is a little limited.

The University of Alabama is excellent for Athletics.

Greek life is huge at the University. It seems as if everything social revolves around greek. You may feel quite leftout if you do not participate, but don't worry! The greek life is not for everyone. There are rumors about the harshness of the Fraternities, but nothing has been said about the pledging or rushing of the soroities.
College Junior 2012-12-03T01:20:38Z
There are a lot of white students with the second being the number of black students. There are a few asians, hispanics and other, but the majority is white. We are in the south so most of the local students are polite.

There are lots of resturants, and fast food options away from the university. I eat a lot of chicken so Zaxby's, Gutheries, and Walton's Satisfies my craving, but there are plenty of other options. If you like Burgers I recommend Five Guys.

Health & Safety:
I haven't had any bad interactions with campus crime or police. We have a very good safety policy and the campus police take their job very seriously. In many of my classes we have had speakers from our campus police come in and discuss all the ways to keep ourselves self and how to contact them in case of emergency. I have never felt unsafe on campus or felt uneasy to contact them if I ever see someone in need of their assistance.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
