There are alot of people of different races on this campus, of course the majority are caucasian but there are no real problems dealing with racial issues. Racial issues are somewhat present in the greek system due to the white greeks and black greeks ignoring each others presence, but that is a small community of a very large school.

Roll Tide – The University of Alabama is known mostly for the Football team and rightfully so. Alabama currently has 14 National Football Championships and is in the best conference in the nation, the SEC. The students come out and support and are filled with school spirit for every sport especially football and the school is dedicated to the support of all teams. Almost every sport has their own stadium and training facility on campus. Alumni and fans near and far come to tuscaloosa for home games making every game a spectacle.

The Best – Tuscaloosa is a college town, so there are apartments galore for students all over. Student apartments are all inclusive for the most part to help students keep costs low and still enjoy the college experience.

Health & Safety:
Super Safe – I have never personally felt unsafe on campus, but i have heard of some crime and issues around the dorms. Campus Police always shows up to handle any and every problem and the university lets students know of any problem through text, email, and phone calls.

Up to the Minute – You are never without transportation and can easily access your classes anytime of day. There is no need to drive on campus as shuttles are available to students around the clock.

Totally in Shock – I was amazed at how large the campus was and how state of the art their computer/library/technology departments are.

Have plenty of sunscreen and bottled water. The climate in Tuscaloosa is awfully hot in the summer. That is to be expected in the south but it is sometimes ridiculously hot. The winters are beautiful and never freezing cold.

Whoooaaaa Bama!! There is always something for you to do! There are many campus based parties that are very suitable for students. The Strip as it is known to the students is in the very center of the campus and can be accessed simply by walking. Transportation is a easily accessible as well.

Go Bama – It is a state of the art university with a range of degree majors. The University of Alabama has a wonderful campus in a small town and the environment if friendly and welcoming. There is a feeling of being amongst family at the college.

Health & Safety:
They Keep Us Informed...Sort of – Administration suppresses the truth. This is true at all universities, I think. I feel 70% safe walking around later than 10pm. At my last college, that was around 60%.

Never Know What to Expect – I moved to AL from FL, so I traded hurricanes for tornadoes. Keep an umbrella with you. You never know when it may flash flood. The summers are hot, hot, hot. Winters can be cold. University operations may be suspended if it looks like the weather is going to be severe.

Handle "Changes" Better – If you change your schedule, call and make certain that financial aid updates your award schedule and offer. Monitor your account constantly. Fin aid and student receivables do not communicate well with each other, so you should just ask for a supervisor if you ever feel that you're being misinformed.

Buses Are Great – I alternate between driving, walking, and taking the bus. I am a staff member and a student; I can walk home (15 mins) and bus back (12-15 mins, including walking to bus stop from apt. on Reed St.) during my 1-hour lunch break.

We are trying to change our image as a "party school," but the bars are here, and there are some fine options for a fun night of responsible drinking & dancing.

There's not a lot to do in this town unless you absolutely love to drink, all the time! Everything closes at 2 am exept Walmart and Waffle House.

Guys & Girls:
For some strange reason sorority girls all wear long t-shirts with exercise shorts everyday all day and most of them don't exercise! Frat guys wear Polos with shorts and Sperries. No one really has their own sense of style.

The University has a bus line called the Crimson
ride. It runs every five to ten minutes. It is a great way to get to and from class. The buses are effective and clean.

Not Enough – They have opportunities to pay for your food using the card that they assign to you. They are constantly adding more vendors to the list but some less interesting than others but I will give them credit for trying enough to let the whole city be able to take that sort of money due to the many off campus and out of state students.

The professors are great but registration is a killer. If you don't remember to make an appointment with your advisor you will get the last of the classes that will be late in the afternoon or early in the morning. On the other hand, once you get the class the professor and experience is awarding itself. The teacher are full of life and makes learning fun again.

Business Is Great – The Business College have everything organized and can map out your whole college years in one day. It helps to see where you are in the long run and how much you need to buckle down. They are very understanding and helpful when it comes to future planing of internships and summer programs. They also give you a personal email address and responds in a prompt and timely fashion.

Necessary Punishment – The campus has rules and policies just like all campuses but due to the understanding and willing students we almost never have any problems. Only when a student get outrages to the point where the board or the police needs to be involved then the right precautions are taken.

There are many different cultures that roam the campus. I have met students of different races and religions that come together as one in order to make each semester go smoothly. Each semester they have things to let other people express themselves and teach others while having fun. I have never seen so much variety of culture that is so excepted in one place which is very rare in Alabama alone.

The computer "hubs" are nice in that they are centrally located to all parts of campus I frequent. However, they are not as fast as I would like them to be, and are older and bulkier, taking up valuable working space when at the computer.

Guys & Girls:
Cute Girls – Majority are good looking sorority girls, however some tend to pack on a few pounds from drinking, but it comes with the territory.

Admission is relatively easy if you're coming in with good grades and a decent ACT.
