Comparable Schools' Diversity Grades:
College Prowler Take
UA’s student body is overwhelmingly white. If you’re from a small town, UA may seem pretty diverse, but people from big cities will find it decidedly homogenous. However, UA does have an international department, which allows students to meet people with different nationalities, beliefs, and cultures. Students believe Alabama is pretty diverse for a Southern state, and a lot has changed over the years. The majority of the student body is made up of those with Southern backgrounds; perhaps this is why UA is full of Southern hospitality. The students here are always willing to learn and are open to meeting new people and experiencing new things, even if those people are few and far between. Students today feel that racial and ethnic differences are not the problems they once were. UA is not separated by how much money students have, their color, or their beliefs. All students that come to Alabama come for the same reason—to learn. As the campus grows, so does the range of students that come to UA. For the most part, the students are accepting and have the opportunity to meet different kinds of people while being here.

Most people on campus are middle-class, white, straight conservatives. You can easily run across some small-minded, sheltered jerks, but I think there are just as many open-minded people. UA is a big school, so you can find pretty much any type of person here.
