Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Public transportation is not widely used in Tuscaloosa. Everything is mostly in walking distance, and since most students bring their own cars, there is not much need for other transportation. Off-campus residents can take advantage of the trolley system if they don’t bring a car, which makes stops on and off campus. Also, the trolley goes down the Strip at night, so students have a ride home from the bars. If students are on campus at night and need a ride, 348-RIDE is the safest and fastest way to get you where you need to be. Although most students choose not to use the public transportation systems, they still believe they are conveniently located around town.

Getting around town is not a problem for UA students since all the basic needs are located on campus or on the Strip. However, if students do need to get around town, the trolley is their best bet. For rides around campus, 348-RIDE is convenient. If students don’t have a car and need to travel beyond the trolley’s route, then cabs are the most popular way to get around.

Decent

The university offers some off campus transportation. Most students though choose to drive. When they do, this causes more on campus parking issues. The on campus buses are usually on some sort of schedule so if you figure it out then your possibilities of getting around will be plenty!

NOT GOOD FOR STUDENT'S HAVING TO TRAVEL LONG DISTANCE FOR BREAKS.. EXAMPLE FOR THANKSGIVING WEEK SHUTTLE ONLY RUNS TIL 2PM THAT TUES & I HAVE A TEST AT 3:45 WHICH MEANS I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A PRIVATE SERVICE $150.OO TO GET TO AIRPORT TUES. NIGHT OR LEAVE THE FOLLOWING MORNING WED WHEN THE FLIGHTS ARE MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE & RETURN BY SUN FLIGHTS MORE EXPENSIVE CAUSE NO PICK UPS FOR THAT FOLLOWING MON AFTER THANKSGIVING.

Halfway There

The University of Alabama offers on-campus buses from 7AM-11PM every day, and when they're not running, 348-RIDE will take you anywhere on campus and even down to the Strip. Parking is terrible on campus, however. There seem to be a few things (such as student employee parking) that the University really needs to fix, but as a whole, the school is doing a great job. There is also a shuttle service offered for out-of-state students who need to fly home during winter break.
