College Prowler Take

The UA is a huge sports school. Intramural sports are organized through the Student Recreation Center and are wildly popular. The sunny weather in Tucson allows for a wide variety of these intramurals. The University community is especially passionate when it comes to basketball. Students cheer wildly at games, they refuse to study during the Final Four, and they rioted when the team made it to the national championships. One bystander, a student, lost his eye when police shot beanbags to contain one of the championship riots. But at least he was able to sue and get lots of money.

Football is also a big thing. It’s fun to cheer on the team—it’s a bonding experience and a community effort, for sure. Ticket sales for football seem to increase every season as the team improves. The girls on the softball team have been national champions. These are just examples of how sports affect the entire campus.

Sports on campus are huge! I think that life revolves around sports at Arizona. It seems like everyone plays something, whether it be varsity or IM. It is fun and a great way to meet new people! Make sure to buy season tickets to the football games; you’ll love them.

Sports are really big on campus because we’re really good at them. Obviously, our basketball team is really good since we’re always ranked. We also have other really good programs, like our softball team, both men’s and women’s golf, and women’s volleyball.

Basketball is the biggest sport because we’re so good at it. IM sports aren’t hugely watched, but there are a lot of them. I played coed soccer last year and had a blast. You can find out how to sign up at the Rec Center.

Varsity sports are huge! Our football team isn’t that good, but the games are always packed with students and alumni ready for fun. Don’t forget to bring keys with you; it’s a tradition to jingle them before the other team kicks off.

School Spirit

A red wave floods the stadiums, and that is where the Zona Zoo Wildcat fans are located during games. T-shirts are given to members of Zona Zoo, and fans wear them with pride during games. The bell at noon is the “Bear Down Arizona” song, which in a nutshell shows how obsessed with sports students are at U of A.

Getting Tickets

For basketball tickets, it is the luck of the draw, literally. It is a lottery for students and unless you have a huge bank account, getting a ticket is near impossible for students. Football and all other sports are a cakewalk compared to basketball, where you can simply buy them at arizonaathletics.com. Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, cash, check and e-check are all accepted.

Baseball, basketball, football, softball

Most Overlooked Teams

Swimming, soccer and volleyball all seem to have a relative small fan base. But these boys and girls really do kick butt at what they do, winning awards without coverage. They go under the radar but don’t seem to mind.

Best Place to Take a Walk

Walking right down University from Tucson Blvd. to Fourth Avenue is a popular route. Bikes, rollerblades, and skateboards all fly by this lovely route. You get to see the Sam Hughes neighborhood, the campus, and University Boulevard, and you wind up on Fourth where a $1 PBR at Che’s may be calling your name.
