Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Oh, man, off-campus food in Tucson. If you have the time, the money, and the means, it’s terrific to eat off campus. There are restaurants galore, ranging from Mexican to Chinese to Indian to Middle Eastern, all on University Boulevard. It’s beautiful, really—the aromas, the colors, the grease. Students love eating off campus. It’s cheap and delicious. The variety of (and love for) cultural food in Tucson is so thick you can taste it. There are a lot of interesting eateries surrounding the UA, and the best advice is to explore them all.

The food is good—very good. And eating off campus is better—way better. So eat off campus. Take time to drive around and look at all of the restaurants around campus. Bring a notepad, and write down names and locations. A lot of people eat on University Boulevard, and it’s a smart place to start your search. The Tucson Weekly is a free entertainment newspaper and website that reviews restaurants and would be a good place to get ideas. Mi Nidito, a popular Mexican restaurant in South Tucson, was visited by President Clinton years ago. (Quick explanation: "South Tucson" is an actual square-mile city located within Tucson city limits.) Most Mexican restaurants in the poorer parts of Tucson are good bites, as well. El Guero Canelo and BK Tacos are some student favorites, though others exist and are just as good. All in all, it's best to explore the dozens and dozens of options before you graduate. Just make sure you hit the gym afterward.

So Many Options

University Boulevard is as far away as most of your classes, so it's an easy walk and there are so many choices of food. Pretty much any direction you venture (whether its on foot, bike or car) you won't have trouble finding interesting or cheap places to eat.

University Ave. or Bust

University is the hotspot for a close off-campus dining experinece. It has great local places, as well as major chains (Chipotle, Jimmy Johns, etc). As you move away, they are some good spots, but most are hit and miss.
