College Prowler Take

If you have the time, the money, and the means; it’s terrific to eat off campus. There are restaurants galore, ranging from Mexican, to Chinese, to Indian, to Middle Eastern, all on University Boulevard. It’s beautiful, really—the aromas, the colors, the grease. Students love eating off campus. It’s cheap and delicious. The variety of (and love for) cultural food in Tucson is so thick you can taste it. There are a lot of interesting eateries surrounding the UA, and my advice is to explore them all.

I almost don’t know how to say more about off-campus dining, but I will, because if I didn’t, I would be doing my stomach an injustice. So, here it is: the food is good. It is very good. And eating off campus is better—way better. So eat off campus. Take time to drive around and look at all the restaurants around campus. Bring a notepad and write down names and locations. A lot of people eat on University Boulevard, and it’s a smart place to start your search. The Tucson Weekly is a free entertainment newspaper and Web site that reviews restaurants and would be a good place to get ideas. Mi Niditos, a popular Mexican restaurant in South Tucson, was visited by President Clinton a few years back. (Quick explanation: South Tucson is an actual square-mile city located within Tucson city limits.) Most Mexican restaurants in the poorer parts of Tucson are good bites as well. Guerro Canelos and BK’s on 12th Ave., just south of Irvington Road, are my personal favorites.

I just spent the weekend with all my girlfriends from school and we could not stop talking about how much we missed certain places in Tucson to eat; there are so many nice restaurants there. No Anchovies and the upstairs Chinese place on University are great— everything is awesome!
