Parking Permits

Go to parking.arizona.edu to apply for a parking permit. They are pretty pricey, but if you live far off campus, getting one is a good idea. The price is about $300 to $500 for an entire year, but with the recent budget cuts, the prices are going up, up, up! Riding a bike to campus has been a recent trend and will only continue as the permits grow in pricing.

College Prowler Take

Parking sucks—sorry. This is common at large universities, but the UA has this knack for exacerbating the parking issue. Permits are expensive, and there are a lot of pissed off men and women in brown uniforms running around, checking meters, and giving out tickets. I swear the mafia is behind
this racket.

I know a few free, good places, but I refuse to tell you where they are. No, seriously; I refuse. I’ll compromise, though, and give you a hint: behind the Rec Center and behind the middle school next to the Rec Center—that’s it. Parking far enough south of 5th Street (or biking in) would be the best and most cost-efficient way to commute at the UA if you don’t have the money to pay for meters or permits. Trust me, a ticket-giver will find your car if you’re parked illegally, in any case. I’ve missed classes because I couldn’t find a place to park and I didn’t want to get a ticket. Those people dressed in brown have struck the fear of God in me, and even if you’ve found yourself to be an extraordinarily lucky person in all aspects of your life, they’ll get you, too.

I’m not going to lie to you, parking can be a pain. There are always garage permits open, but they cost around $400. There are different zones that you can park in as well, and you can also get street permits from the city of Tucson. I would apply for a Zone 1 permit because that allows you to park in most places around campus and is around $200.
