Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you live within five miles of campus, it’s better to buy a cheap bicycle and happily pedal to school every day than give all of your change to the meters. Besides, it’s good exercise to bike around. The city bus system in Tucson is serviceable, but not great. It will get you around and is fairly reliable, but that's about the most you can say about it. Many students aren’t exactly enamored with some of the people who ride the buses because it's not uncommon to run into creepy homeless people or those who have just escaped from prison on the Sun Tran. If that's OK by you, then great! If not, you might consider another mode of transport.

Get a bike—really. Park far away and bike into campus. The UA shuttle isn’t bad, but oftentimes it’s not worth the 15-minute wait. UA shuttle service is pretty reliable, though, and it can usually drop you off close to your next class. Again, riding a sturdy bike cancels out the time spent waiting for the shuttle. You might see a friend while riding and catch up on gossip. Maybe you’ll crash into a gorgeous guy or girl and fall in love. So many good things can happen on a bicycle (except pedestrian collisions). Skateboards are another popular mode of transportation at UA. Those fold-up scooters are considered to be stupid and you will be, too, if you ride one. All the more reason to get a bike!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Most off campus apartments offer a daily shuttle to bus students too and from school. The University provides a "Cat Tran" which is a paid form of transportation, as well as "Safe Ride" which is a program that will transport you throughout a certain radius of campus for free. Other than that parking passes are extremely expensive and there are not many places to park throughout campus.

Saferide

At U of A people mainly walk or bike but there are other options. The common one is saferide. You just call them and tellnyou them where to pick u up and they are there but from what I have heard saferide takes a really long time to respond so people try not to use it as much. Then there is the cat tran which goes all over campus so u need to memorize the schedule.

Many Options

There are many options on and around campus for transportation. The campus is small enough, you get usually get by wallking, biking, or riding a long board to class. But if you can't, there's a cat tran that goes around a lot of campus, and it is free. At night, there are services provided by the school to drive you around campus and off campus within a certain distance free of charge! Also, there's a city bus service called the sun tran, which with my experience hasn't been very useful, but if it is going where you want it would be a great option!
