Ii met great friends and people, but I wish the classes could be more intimate and the grading scale isn't as harsh. UC Berkeley, I learned, is a poor place to be a pre-med unless you're really talented.

Most majors and the degree that come with it will greatly help you find a job after graduation. However, finishing the major with good GPA will be extremely difficult and some major advisers have a little below average quality.

I never used the campus computer but the campus wireless is decent. Some buildings, especially the crowded ones, will have slower internet connection because of the vast number of students using the internet for class.

It really depends on where you look. Because this is the Bay Area, the living cost is relatively high.

Even though I don't see it, there's definitely quite a bit of drug interractions happening on campus and near campus, especially marijuana usage. Parties don't happen too often, but when they do, too many students get drunk to the point the school made it to the local Bay Area ABC news.

I have had not much problems with the campus strictness. I do feel like there should be increased regulation of controlled substances.

The weather is very bipolar. Morning and night could be freezing and the day could get really hot and humid, even though the thermostat reads around 77 degree fahrenheit. I would still like southern california weather more.

Health & Safety:
As long as you know where to go and where to avoid, it is generally safe to walk around on campus, even at night. Even if you want to study late into the night and return home later, you can call BearWalk, a service of which someone (usually a student security officer) can walk with you back home. There's also the night campus shuttle that can give you a lift back to your school dorm.

The school seems to focus on increasing diversity. I definitely experience more diversity than my hometown could ever have.

The city of Berkeley has its ups and downs. Lower portion of the hill can be scary and unsafe whereas upper portions of the hill is the opposite. There seems to have a lot of student events going on off-campus.

Robberies happen quite often. Usually nothing major, but it's still scary walking around alone after about 10 p.m.

You can smell marijuana on the streets of Berkeley quite often. Alcohol is mostly limited to parties, but it is quite common.

There are definitely many beautiful, historically significant spots on campus (Memorial Glade, Sproul Plaza, Sather Gate, Doe Library) and I am awed at the beauty of my campus every day. There is also a lot of nature throughout the campus -- lots of trees, a creek, and beautiful grassy fields.

There really is no better weather than California weather. It can get cloudy/rainy and a bit cold sometimes, since this is the Bay Area, but in general, the weather is fair and doesn't hinder students' abilities to go around campus.

The campus seems to be at peace with the regulations in place. The school's policies simply represent what most students already do on a day to day basis. People are far too concerned with their studies to meander i.e. party anyhow.
College Junior 2013-11-12T20:54:04Z
The city turns into a totally different environment once a varsity game starts. People arrive from out of town/state/ and even country in some cases. I don't think our teams are exception in any sense of the word, but people are still excited by the atmosphere generated by such attractions.

I am a "non-Greek," and as such I am not treated any differently from the other student bodies represented on campus. This is not a factor to take into consideration when attending CAL.
College Junior 2013-11-12T20:50:44Z
Student welcoming event truly allow one to orient themselves in the new environment. The academic rigors at CAL are difficult to become accustomed to, but the atmosphere here leads to a comfortable adjusting period. I would choose this school again if the opportunity arose, but would perhaps prepare myself more for the academic challenges presented here. The cost of living here is enormous and can destroy one's savings/ cause one to go into debt. Love the school, but the city does cost quite a lot.

The constant overcast and threat of precipitation make it difficult to bike to campus.
