Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The majority of students are satisfied with the food on campus, but as usual, being away from home-cooked meals can leave some students desiring mom’s cooking. The Silo is popular, with basics such as Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr., and Pizza Hut, plus Stock Pot soups, Sub City sandwiches, Crepeville, and Café Fresca salads, sushi, parfaits, wraps, and sandwiches. You will also find organic frozen food meals, which are also available at the Silo. Students rave about the convenience of Aggie Cash—prepaid dollars on student accounts that allows them to swipe meals at the Silo and other restaurants downtown.

The dorm food at Davis is not your typical “dorm” food—it is definitely above par when compared to other typical cafeteria-style dormitory dining commons elsewhere. There's a vast variety of tasty meals. The dining commons (DC) are convenient and offer a plethora of options, especially when compared to the other UC campuses. For the unadventurous DC diner, cereal, salad, and the sandwich bar may prove to be dietary staples. The dining commons have plenty of vegetarian and vegan selections, and some theme nights, such as Indian, Caribbean, and Korean, that students seem to enjoy. Whatever the dining commons lack in their entrées, they make up with their desserts. With frozen yogurt and at least five desserts to choose from, Davis students always end their meals on a good note.

DC

The dining halls at UC Davis provides a decent variety of food as well as alternatives to what the menu offers on a daily basis. To help students and guests control what they eat instead of pigging out all the time the DC offers vegetarian and vegan options. If you are in a rush you can swipe a small meal at the mini marts at each dorm location. My favorite dining common for breakfast is Tercero but the other meals I prefer to eat at Segundo.

Awesome but Pricey

There's many places to eat on campus. There are three dining halls with a tiny convenience store next to them. For the dining halls you can eat semi buffet style, where there's a set menu for the meal for the day, but you can get as many plates as you want. The food does get tiring if you eat it everyday, which you might when you live in the dorms. The convenience stores have items that are a bit pricey, but they have delicious 3 dollar smoothies. You can eat at the "Coho" and buy burritos, sushi, and other things, or eat at the Silo and buy crepes, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, etc. There are two truck carts outside of the Silo, which sell Vietnamese and Indian food. They're pretty expensive, but I hear they're really good.

Good but Not the Best

The dining commons contains a variety of food. There is a balance of okay food to really good food. After a few weeks, I got tired of the food because I wanted to eat my mother's food at home. Of course, when I need to eat before a class and don't have time to cook, then I ate at the dining commons.
