College Prowler Take
Segundo is designed like a typical dorm—one to three students live in one room and use communal bathrooms, which is how students usually get to know everyone. Tercero is set up similarly, but the buildings are in close proximity to the cows, and some complain about the smell. Still, students point out that Tercero has a better dining commons. Cuarto is suite-style—more like apartments. Each suite houses 5–10 people and has their own bathrooms, which are nice. Students are expected to clean them and supply the toilet paper. Davis dorms are set up differently to accommodate students’ different living styles, and picking a favorite just depends on what’s important to you. If you want to meet a ton of people, Segundo may work for you. If you want to meet a ton of people, eat better food, and don’t mind when windy days blow "eau de cow"in your direction, pick Tercero. If you want to make a few close friends and a lot of acquaintances, a small suite in Cuarto would work. If you’re aiming to make a ton of really close friends, but not too many acquaintances, a big suite in Cuarto would suit you well. No matter what, though, students agree that the dorms provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience that no student should miss.

Every dorm is different because...
Every dorm is different because each one has its own theme house. Tercero is the best because it's close to most of the lecture halls, and the food at the dining commons is the best.

The on-campus dorms are very nice. The off-campus dorms are a little neglected, but also less strict with policies.

The dorms are typical college dorms. The maintenance staff does a wonderful job keeping them up-to-date and clean. The dorm dining halls are fantastic, and the best food of all the UCs, in my opinion. There is always a variety of foods to eat and great vegan options.

My dorm experience was wonderful....
My dorm experience was wonderful. I lived in the off-campus suites and was very much spoiled. I had my own sink, lots of shelves, a huge walk in closet, and a nice-sized room. The off-campus suites are very, very nice. But, it is definitely a different experience than the on-campus dorms. If you want the traditional college experience, then go for the on-campus dorms. I would say put Segundo as your first choice if you want that kind of experience. Stay away from Regan and Tercero. They are on-campus dorms as well, but not as nice as Segundo. If you want a very nice, spoiled kind of experience, then put Cuarto as your first choice. |

Cuarto, especially Castillian, is the best! Your own bathroom and living room make it more like home while still creating the dorm atmosphere. Steer clear of Tercero unless you really like the smell of cows. |

Did You Know?In an attempt to help students live with like-minded people, Davis has developed specialty programs that groups students of common interests in the same dorm. There are more than 10 specialty programs, ranging from Outdoor Experience to the Quiet Program, Music Arts and Performance to the Health Sciences. Students select their specialty programs separately from their dorm choices, and the programs have priority. For example, if you state that you wish to participate in the International Relations program (located in Regan Hall) but want to live in the Cuarto dorms, you will most likely be assigned to Regan Hall. This is important to keep in mind when filling out housing papers.
