Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Many students have never had to deal with campus authorities. In the dorms, if students are caught with alcohol or drugs, they receive a written referral to a student judicial board, and the board decides what sort of consequences to implement. So while it’s nice that your fate is in the hands of your understanding peers, there are some things that are not tolerated. Drinking and driving is not something where students are likely to get off easy, and even if you ride your bike while drunk, you may end up with a BUI (biking under the influence) and have your driver’s license pulled. Davis considers a bike to be a vehicle, and there are severe consequences for being irresponsible and operating vehicles.

Generally, students consider the campus to be strict. Between BUIs, parking tickets, and fines for not having a bike light at night, students claim that security is unnecessarily strict, and police enjoy ticketing young college students. However, most have had no problems abiding by the regulations or keeping offences under wraps. The low campus crime rate is undoubtedly due in part to the tight campus security.

UC Davis Campus Police

The UC Davis Campus expressed brutality against students last November for peaceful protesting. The Police claim they were enforcing Chancellor Katehi's instructions. Overall, Davis was once a safe campus; however, the UC Davis Police have far too much authority and make the campus a fairly unsafe environment.

Judicial Affairs Are EXTREMELY Strict

Davis has a very strict Student Judicial Affairs, particularly in regards to plagiarism and cheating. First-time offenders can easily be dismissed from school, depending on the severity of the case. Drinking in the dorms also lends to moderate punishments for first-time offenders, and severe for repeating offenders.
