Students unabashedly admit that parking on campus is miserable. Actually, parking anywhere in Davis is seen as pretty awful. They don’t ride bikes for no reason! The school refuses to issue freshmen parking permits, unless they have an absolutely valid reason, but it doesn’t seem to phase most of the student body. Most prefer to get around on bikes or the bus, and the public transportation more than compensates for the impossible parking.
On campus, students tend to think that a car is really just a pain. One of the parking lots on campus was paid for entirely by parking tickets—that says something. However, cars provide many much needed opportunities to venture outside of Davis, not only for the San Francisco parties, but many internships are in Sacramento, and cars are a luxury to have. Though the Davis parking is terrible, it’s not a big deal if you’re on a bike, and most people are on bikes anyway, so it’s not as awful as it sounds.

Pretty Safe
Even though I ride my bike during the night on campus, it is not as bad. It seems very quiet but it is only silence that probably makes things creep.y

Permits are not issued to freshmen, but students who work downtown can apply for city permits. Chances are slim, but that’s the option with the highest chance of success.
