Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students have overwhelmingly positive remarks about the public transportation, and their favorite part is the price. With a student ID, the bus system is free. Students seem to appreciate the University’s attempt to lessen the effects of the parking crisis on campus and feel that the public transportation compensates nicely for the packed parking lots.

Besides being such a bargain, public transportation is surprisingly efficient. The bus system covers most of Davis, and students don’t usually have to wait long before a bus comes. It may be a good idea to catch an earlier bus than you need because sometimes they can be off schedule, and depending on traffic, the buses can be anywhere from 10 minutes ahead to 10 minutes behind. Generally, the farther away from campus you are, the less punctual the bus. But for being run by students, Unitrans is impressive and a lifesaver when your bike has a flat and it is pouring rain.

Very Convenient

Your tuition pays for all Davis buses, including the bus that goes to Sacramento. Bus stops are conveniently placed, and buses stop frequently (some of the more busy lines are at each stop every 10 minutes.) Buses can get crowded, but it's to be expected; you can stand on the bus ride home. Make sure you learn how to read a bus schedule before coming here! Also, we have the tipsy taxi, which will pick you up anywhere in Davis for $2 (Th-Sat 10pm-2am) and take you home, no questions asked.

Awesome

Transportation at Davis is incredible. It is super easy to get around by bike, nothing is more than 10-15 minutes away. Busses run everywhere you can't get to on your bike and all through downtown and to Target, Safeway, Savemart etc. They are free for students. There is an hourly bus to the airport and on busy travel weeks they have a direct shuttle. The tipsy taxi will take you anywhere in Davis for two dollars.
