Over the years, UC Irvine has collected an exclusive array of world-renowned professors that not only know their stuff, but also pride themselves on the intellectual growth of their students. With professors ranging from Nobel Prize winners, Noble Laureates, and former OJ attorneys, student admiration for the faculty at UCI is not at all uncommon. However, what plagues many major universities—UCI included—is the lack of one-on-one, personal attention from some professors that most students are used to receiving from their high school teachers. With many classes consisting of 400 or more people, it’s tough for any professor, no matter how passionate or inspirational, to reach out to even a fraction of those students. Furthermore, it’s up to the students to step up their effort and visit professors during their office hours if they want any kind of direct interaction. It’s fortunate for UCI students that even the busiest of professors will set aside time for students outside of class. This all stems from the passion that UCI professors have for their students and their courses. Some professors go the extra mile to reach their students, and students who care do the same to meet their professors. This student effort has resulted in higher grades, professor appreciation, and newly discovered interest in a subject they might not have even considered.

The professors here are average....
The professors here are average. Some can be really easy and some can be really tough. Because I am a psychology major, I basically have no homework except readings for midterm and finals. Irvine is known for biology and engineering.

UC Irvine is known for its science...
UC Irvine is known for its science and engineering programs, especially physics, chemistry, and traffic engineering. These three majors are the best. The teachers are alright—just like at any other college, there are good and bad ones. There is a LARC program here that tutors students after classes—I have heard it is a very good and helpful program.

Many of the professors who teach...
Many of the professors who teach lower-division classes are really dull and teach with an enthusiasm that is quite phony. However, the professors who teach HumCore (Humanities Core) are all very good, though the workload is quite heavy. Yet, if you are looking for the best deal, the trade off for taking HumCore is much better than going through each requirement individually.

UCI is highly known for its pre-med program and the arts program. I've had pretty good experiences with my art professors. but I feel that the other professors I've encountered lacked a lot in their teaching abilities.

Most of the professors I have had...
Most of the professors I have had so far have been good. There are a few here and there that could implement a little more enthusiasm to get the students more excited, but, for the most part, they are okay. Depending on one's major, the workload will vary. It all depends on how many classes you take. Our campus is very big on research.
