College Prowler Take
Drugs are among the least of UCI’s problems on campus. Beyond a few dabbling pot smokers here and there, everyone lives in a blissful bubble, ignorant of drug use or crime of any kind. In Southern California, this makes a lot of sense, especially considering how morally conservative and health conscious most of the county is. The campus police, local citizens, and the majority of the student body just wouldn’t put up with heavy drug trafficking and usage on or around campus. Even frequent party-goers at UCI admit that they rarely run into anything harder than alcohol and marijuana at on-campus or off-campus parties, even though they know that if they wanted to get it, there’d be somebody around who could provide it. The fact that many UCI students are so involved in their academics also plays a part in the relatively scarce drug scene here. Despite being home to many young people who enjoy living the fast life of luxury cars, clothes, and money, UCI’s students are nevertheless grounded in their routine of letting their parents buy them everything, rather than doing anything foolish that might veer them off their path of becoming one of America’s elite citizens. “Foolish” would be hardcore drug usage, serious drinking, or anything else that could jeopardize their college education.

The drug scene on campus is not really big. People do drugs, but they keep it within their circles. It really does depend on what crowd you hang out with. It is not noticeable because people are doing it in the privacy of their own homes.
