Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The fact that the Irvine police do nothing but hand out traffic tickets like righteous hippies hand out fliers is enough to assume that Irvine is a safe place. Although the police—whom students refer to as the “Parking Lot Nazis”—can be irritating to say the least, handing out parking tickets is simply a sign of their overzealousness to do the job right, which can be quite comforting, even in a town where nothing happens—unless, of course, the ticket is on your car. The overwhelming majority of positive student opinions about Irvine’s rigid safety standards shows that the students here are comfortable about their safety. The town of Irvine, which consistently ranks in the top 20 safest cities in the U.S., mostly consists of retired citizens and white-collar workers.

As far as the safety issue on campus, you won’t be hard-pressed to find a blue-light post or a security guard in a golf cart nearby. And if for some reason you are pressed, just go to the phone and dial safety for an escort to make you feel safe. There’s still going to be an isolated occurrence of minor theft here and there, but that’s common at any campus. For the ultra-paranoid, there are lockers at various campus sites, like the ARC and the UCI bookstore, that you may keep all your valuables in.

Security

While I was here, there were only a few attempted rapes (everyone on campus was contacted and made aware), I believe two deaths (though I don't believe the events were related to the school), and some robberies. The security is enough to make me feel secure enough to walk through the campus alone. Everyone is contacted viz email when something occurs and made aware.

Extremely Safe

The campus itself is located in Irvine which is a very well off area and everyone is quite well off. The police here respond quickly and almost in an over-exaggerated fashion to any crime that happens around here. There are a few homeless people but they are rare and scattered and honestly, if no one bothers them, they will not bother you. I have never felt unsafe walking anywhere at night on campus.

Very Safe

Blue emergency lights everywhere just in case anyone is in trouble, the police are a couple minutes away. Escorts can be called to escort you at night.
