Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles and on the list of America's top colleges, UCLA is a school for those who want to have a blast while focusing on schoolwork. Although course registration is a battle, classes are crowded, and the registrar is impersonal, students praise the wisdom of their professors and feel that a UCLA degree will open major doors in the job market. The quarter system moves fast and tests tend to sneak up stealthily, but this allows for more experimentation when choosing courses and far less boredom. With more than 100 majors to choose from, the campus is bustling with students of all ideologies, races, and academic interests, making rousing discussions an everyday experience.

One of the nation's few top-notch universities that isn't private, UCLA is a place for those who want to learn more than a textbook contains. There’s pressure to shine socially and academically among the approximately 25,000 high-achieving Bruin undergrads, but there are plenty of campus organizations that give students a go-to friend group in the midst of the giant student body. However, it's up to the students to scout out and take advantage of all opportunities because nothing is handed to UCLA students—they must learn to navigate around red tape, persist through budget cuts, find parking and housing in Westwood's winding streets, and steer toward success. And how do they celebrate their successes? Parties! Whether through the semi-dominant Greek system or at a laid-back dorm gathering, UCLA students know how to put the books aside for a night. Overall, Bruins play nearly as hard as they work, making UCLA one of the most well-rounded schools imaginable.

Dining Halls

There are 4 residential dining halls: De Neve, Covel, Hedrick, and Feast (the new Pa-Asian themed dining hall). All four serve pretty decent food and are fairly conveniently located. My favorite is Feast; lots of diversity and authenticity in dishes, and everyday is vastly different from each other. One day could be Korean-Thai, the next could be Japanese-Hawaii or Vietnamese-Indian or any number of combos of the above plus Chinese. Moreover, Feast is located right at my dorm, Rieber Hall, so it's the most convenient.

There Is So Much to Do!

There is literally something for everyone! From research opportunities, clubs, volunteer groups, politically active groups, a cappella groups, music clubs, dance companies, sports teams, etc. Everyone is doing there own thing and the possibilities are endless! There are some amazing professors on campus and so many internship/job opportunities! I love UCLA! Also, the weather is sunny all year around! You can't beat that!

Campus Housing at University of California - Los Angeles

Everything at UCLA Is Super Nice!

UCLA renovates their buildings regularly, and although they are kind of small, I really like my dorm room! The facilities are all top notch, even though it's really expensive to stay in the dorms. The housing process is really easy and I haven't ever heard of disastrous roommate problems. My only complaint is that the dorms are too far away from campus. It takes me at least 15 minutes to walk to my closest class, and at least 25 minutes to walk to my farthest! There is a lot of walking involved, which keeps you in tip-top shape! I use a pedometer and it says I walk around 5 miles a day here.
