Great Overall – The sports atmosphere at UCLA is awesome. Everyone has a lot of school pride and each home sports game is completely packed with students. Game days are the best!

I generally never have a huge problem with parking on/near campus, but sometimes the traffic in the area, plus the amount of students during class rush hours, can make it hard to find a spot

Sunny LA – There's never snow here. Never gets too hot or too cold. The beach always have nice weather as well.

Like most major schools, there are many white students on campus. With UCLA, however, there are many students with different backgrounds.

Too Much Studying – You have to do a lot of studying to get somewhere.

Computer Labs – There are computer labs scattered around campus and on the hill that are free for students to use. Of course, they may get crowded every once in a while, but that's to be expected. They also offer a certain amount of credit that allows you to print a number of pages for free, so that's always helpful if you don't have one or you're trying to save ink.

It's Southern California, so of course it's going to be sunny and hot most days of summer and spring. Fall gets nippy every once in a while, but it's not uncomfortable. Winter really surprised me though, because I was freezing and sometimes the rain would make walking to class such a nightmare. There's nothing you can really do about the weather though; I imagine it's like this everywhere else as well.

I chose my major because of it's inter-disciplinary approach to psychology. However, I haven't spoken to any counselors in the department to actually plan out what I can do or what opportunities there are for me upon graduation. I don't know what I can do with this major. I don't really want to attend grad school, but this may be the type of major that needs it.

The parking permits are expensive, but that's a given. Parking is usually easy to find, but can be annoying.

I am a Sociology major and I love it! I'm minoring in Labor and Workplace studies and they have a phenomenal internship program. The workload is heavy when you are a full-time student and a part-time worker working maybe around 20 hours a week. I would say to always meet with a counselor if you can and to always update your resume for any possible internships that look like they might fall into your passion.

Health & Safety:
Crime Does Happen Once in a Blue Moon – UCLA does have a nice campus patrol officer every now and then, but once you step foot off campus and go off towards some of the local apartments, I have seen and heard more crime rates in those parts of UCLA campus life.

Drugs Can Be Found Where You Least Expect It – Don't be surprised to go to any UCLA party and have someone with a connection with some illegal substances. It does happen occasionally, so I highly recommend that you always party with a friend. Never leave home alone and never plan to abandon a friend no matter how cute the chick/guy is that you just met.

Punishments Are Hashed Out Accordingly – I would generally say that it's very important for me to feel safe on campus; and for that reason, I would also like to add that I admire that UCLA has strict guidelines to follow that would allow all students to feel safe at all cost. Punishments are hashed out to deserving students and the first time offenders are met with a strong hand to follow.

When It's Hot, It's HOT – During the early back to school summer days, it gets extremely hot on campus. For a California girl like myself, anything over 85 degrees is scorching hot. It tends to rain here and there, and when you're running to class, be sure to wear rain boots because there are plenty of nice puddles that would love to drench your shoes :)

Frat Parties – Frat parties are the place to be, clubs not so much.

Best Sports – Sports at UCLA are a priority, athletes get excellent tutors, classes, and equipment thus they have excellent abilities on the playing fields.

Campus Is Diverse but Segregated – There's a *ton* of people at UCLA and a ton of diversity. Unfortunately, people from the same ethnic group tend to hang out with each other and nobody else. If you make a conscious effort it's really easy to have diverse friends so don't let yourself fall into your comfort zone!

Pretty Nice – The financial aid here is nothing to complain about. Though the financial aid office is on the other side of campus from the dorms, all you have to do is wait in line and they can straighten anything out. You can also call them; that has worked a lot for me. I got quite a bit of financial aid.

Dorms: The official rule is if they see, hear, smell, or taste alcohol you're in trouble. Even if you keep your door closed but you make a lot of noise during quiet hours they can make you open your door (so hide your alcohol). The punishment isn't that bad: just taking an online education course about alcohol and maybe come community service (vacuuming the hallways). But after three times you risk getting kicked out of the dorms. They also don't let you back into your dorm room at night if it clearly looks like you've been drinking; they call the ambulance.
Apartments: The university police shut down parties for noise violations but rarely get anyone in trouble for underage drinking (in California it's legal for you to drink underage but illegal for people to give you alcohol or for you to be drunk in public). Tip: don't talk to the police if you're drunk.

Great Material but Terrible Instructors – The Computer Science major itself is amazing (great classes, great department, professors that did amazing things like build the internet), but most of the instructors aren't too great. The instructors for the intro Computer Science classes and some of the more advanced classes are pretty good but sometimes you get a professor you can't understand or who is just a terrible teacher.

What Can I Say? We have the second best dining hall food in the nation! Every single day it's something new, and they have special accommodations for every diet! If I could afford to live on the hill, I'd definitely eat in the dining halls ALL THE TIME. Come check it out!

Westwood- Tons of Options – Westwood has a large variety of off campus dining options. Whether you want to go vegan, crave pizza, in the mood for fast food, need boba, etc. You won't get bored with the food!

Nonstop Busy – There is no excuse for being bored in Los Angeles! UCLA is minutes from the beach and beautiful hiking trails. You can go kayaking or camping. Explore downtown with the Metro subway, and visit some of our many museums. Westwood is extremely safe and there is an abundance of opportunities!

Keep It up – I'm a musical theater major, so my workload is definitely heavier than others. Between all day classes (including ballet, tap, etc.), rehearsals that can go on to 11pm, and keeping up with required GE's, it can be very hectic. The curriculum is great though (for any major you choose). The facilities on campus work around your schedule. The libraries and computer labs stay open until about 1am (maybe later, I forgot) and there are many other resources that you can take advantage of.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
