It is usually nice outside which makes going to the pool and beach common especially during spring quarter

Westwood Village – Not a bad place to grab something to eat for cheap or expensive. Definitely have many different options to eat from fast food (subway) to dine in (Yamata's Sushi). There is a diverse amount of restaurants that can cater to your cravings, whether you're feeling something mexican or to a more american dining, throw in a couple delicious asian cuisines and persian and thai food in as well. Definitely a great place to eat late at night as well most places close midnight or later.

Lots of options available at all times. Also, they are excellent in terms of quality for school food. Sometimes it's a little repetitive.

Everything you could possible want is nearby. Restaurants, museums, observatories, hiking spots, or anything else you could want. Plus, it has a very fun and cheerful atmosphere.

They are a little ways but they offer a variety of options some of which have excellent quality of food.

There are many different races at UCLA, but a large portion of the student body is either Asian or white. We have people of all sorts of religion because I see lots of different clubs dedicated to the different religions.

Drinking is a huge part of campus life. Smoking marijuana is also very common but not as huge. Hard drugs such as cocaine, ecstasy etc. you will run across depending on you hang out with. I was personally never pressured into using any of these but I did encounter people who did use recreationally.

Fairly Diverse – The student body demographic at ucla fairly diverse. You will find students from many backgrounds and races however there are the predominant races that tend to make up the student body. Among those are Asian and Caucasian. However, that isn't to say that you won't find Latino, Hispanic, Middle Eastern as well (including other minorities). There are few African American and most of them are in athletes. I'd say UCLA is comprised of about 65% Caucasian and Asian, 10% Hispanic, 5% African American and the rest is a mix.

The psychology major is the biggest undergraduate major at UCLA thus classes are typically huge in size, with most having at least 300 students. If you don't take the initiative to get to know your professors, such as going to office hours, it's very easy to become just another number. However, if you do take that extra step, professors are generally very helpful and welcoming. There are also plenty of opportunities for research within the psychology department. You have professors and graduate students who are more than happy to receive the free labor. All in all the student body is huge but fortunately if you take advantage of it, you have one of the best psychology research institutions at your fingertips.

Great College Experience – Beautiful campus! It is definitely possible to lead a rigorous academic life, while remaining social. Westwood is always a great place to get away and de-stress and there is a lot of opportunities to meet celebrities at movie screenings.

Thirsty Thursdays – Drinking is a very popular activity, especially on Thursday nights.

A lot of opportunities to show school spirit and really get rallied up with a excited crowd

Love It Here. I love the atmosphere here. The people are great, and I have definitely found my niche here. People are socially outgoing as well as hardworking - people care about their futures. It's a great place to be.

Frat houses, kickbacks at apartments, clubbing events... the nightlife at UCLA is great! You're always going to have an opportunity to drink and party. Boys, however, have a tougher time getting into the frat houses.

Overall, the lower division professors are a bit meh. The classes are large and obviously, pretty competitive. Upper division professors are a lot better though and they give you more attention, and they really do care about you succeeding. Workload is definitely different from high school - you got to stay on top of your stuff.

Depends on Your RA – A lot of RAs (residence assistants) have a policy of if they don't see "it" they don't care. The campus police rarely patrols the hallways of a dorm, but you better not be drunk and walking around on campus.

There are nine libraries at UCLA and each have computers for students to work from. You can also find a computer lab in any building on campus. In addition, the library also checks out apple laptops for four hours at a time.

Walking Is the Best Choice – Having a car at UCLA is not allowed unless you're a student with an off campus job. There is also no good transportation that will take you around campus. Prepare to walk at least two miles a day.
College Senior 2012-03-30T19:57:03Z
Prepare to Pay the Price – Off-campus housing is every bit as expensive as on-campus housing. Prepare to share your bedroom with a friend or maybe even two. These apartments are at least a 15 minute walk form campus, and I feel that they're not usually worth the price you pay.

Westwood Village – Westwood Village is a cute, chic town between the city of Los Angeles and Satan Monica. There is tons of food to be had, but not much nightlife. An extra perk of going to UCLA are frequent celebrity sitings!

Guys & Girls:
A Well Dressed Crowd – UCLA is generally known as a college of good looking, well-dressed girls and boys. Everyone on campus is usually dressed well if not stylishly. But everyone is human, and around midterms and finals, the sweatpants come out.
College Senior 2012-03-30T19:47:39Z
There Are Pros and Cons – At UCLA, there is no differentiation between freshman housing and upperclassman housing. I find that this is actually very nice, since you get to mingle with a lot of different people who are different years and majors. Housing is nice, but rooms are generally small. In addition, all on campus housing is on a huge hill and is at least a 15 minute walk from campus.

A Variety of Choices – At UCLA, the Career Center is always having internships fairs; they occur a few times a quarter. I have not participated in an internship, but I have been a researcher in a lab on campus. At UCLA, there are many opportunities for internships, however you might be faced with strong competition for any one position. Pay and responsibilities vary from contract to contract, but every UCLA student is expected to have a strong commitment to their work. I don't plan to find an internship in the future, as I am very happy with my current position doing research with a professor. As a student researcher, I am required to work six hours a week in the laboratory, but these hours may be done at any time during the week. The flexibility in my working hours as well as the proximity of the lab to campus and the valuable research skills I am gaining make finding an internship unattractive. If anything, this just says that there are many opportunities to do jobs other than internships on campus.

Prepare to Party – Nightlife at UCLA is amazing. Usually you can find something you can do any night you're interested, but if you're looking for something close to campus, the only nights that are truly active are Thursday - Saturday; these are frat or apartment parties. The best place to go to a club is in West Hollywood, and on Thursday night, anyone can get in with a college ID. As for transportation, it's easiest if you know someone with a car, but the Blue Line bus is a fairly decent choice, just make sure you don't miss the last bus.

An Overcrowded University – UCLA is an amazing place to be studying biochemistry, as its Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is often ranked as one of the best in the world. However, due to the large number of undergraduate students in the department, it is often difficult for students to get the classes they need, making it difficult to graduate on time. Furthermore, the counselors that are assigned to chemistry and biochemistry majors see such a large number of people on a daily basis that they are often unavailable for appointments during the week. Yet, UCLA offers incredible opportunities to meet professors that are truly interested in their research and are experts in their field. If you express true interest in a professor's research, he or she is often open to helping you find a position in a research laboratory, which is an amazing opportunity to get hands on experience that I know will help me gain employment later in life.
