Campus Is Beautiful! The school's architecture is enough to make me a happy gal, and there are 12 libraries where studying can be done at. However, not all of them are known, so people usually crowd together at Powell (fresh-full of freshmen and sophomores...). Bruin Walk always has people handing out flyers to you, desperately urging you to join whatever club they're sponsoring. It's annoying, really, and I'd try to avoid that area as much as possible.

Health & Safety:
Not So Sure About This – The campus is pretty large, and since the actual dorm area is separated from the rest of campus, it's difficult to feel safe while walking back to your room at night. There are campus police who escort you back, if needed, but I've never used those because I haven't yet stayed on campus that late. Campus crime is reported very often, so keep your stuff safe.

Professors Are OK – It's true when they say that your grade lies with the professor who you have; it's not favoritism, per se, but some professors care more about their students than others. Lucky for me, I enjoyed the classes offered nonetheless. Most of the professors enjoy students' company during office hours, and are willing to make time for those who can't make it to certain ones.

The Philosophy program at UCLA is rigorous, interesting, and highly prestigious.

UCLA gets their financial aid out very slowly. Although they are fair with the distribution of money, the final eFAN (electronic financial aid notification) comes out far into summer, obviously way after the May 1st deadline. However, considering it is a public school with budget cuts, it gives out a good amount of financial aid. Advice: be on top of your financial aid, and apply for local scholarships as well as ones through schools.

Peer Pressure – UCLA is not known for its parties. The big parties are Thursday nights, and even these don't tend to get out of hand on campus. At UCLA, there is no pressure to drink. On the rare occasion others are pressuring you, they aren't people you want to be hanging around.

Registration Process – Considering the school student population is so large, UCLA manages an efficient and fair registration process. There are two passes in order to ensure that students get a majority of the classes they need. For freshmen, specific amounts of spots are held in otherwise "closed" classes. Although there are budget cuts and UCLA is a huge school, I do not worry about getting the classes I need.

It Could Be Better! It's been hard to be in the MSW program because they have been working on changing the entire program this year at the school. Everything feels a bit out of place and the professor do not seem to talk to one another so course tend to be very repeative.

GE Clusters – UCLA offers GE Clusters which are a great way to get all you GE credits as well as prepare yourself for you major. This way you can graduate on time without adding an extra year as I feared I would have to do. UCLA definitely takes care of their students.

Westwood Dining – There are so many off campus dining options it's indescribable. There are restaurants, fast food places, and awesome dessert restaurants right by the campus. It only takes about 5-10 minutes to walk down to Gayley ave. where there are Thai restaurants, Egyptian restaurants, Italian restaurants, and chain restaurants. There are so many cafes where one can go relax or study with a nice cup of coffee in a very relaxing environment. In-N-Out is only a 5 minute walk from campus, this fast food restaurant isn't just crowded like every other In-N-Out but its jam packed with not only students but also people from the neighborhood. The most famous Diddy Riese cooke shop is right on Broxton only 5 minutes away from campus. One should always expect a long line; however, the line will not last more than 5-10 minutes. This shop has fresh baked cookies at a very very cheap price, especially for students; not only that one can order an ice cream sandwich with 2 cookies of one's choice and a ice cream flavor of their choice all for only $1.50. These are not small cookies they are big and the ice cream sandwich is amazing!

Dining Halls and Meal Plans – Living on campus is a great experience for all students, especially because the food is so amazing. There are 4 main dining halls and one cafe open 7 days a week, and then there is an Italian cafe, and a Mexican/ Chinese restaurant which are open 5 days a week. The dining halls are De Neve, Hedrick, Covel, and Reiber. I honestly have not been in Reiber because it was under construction at the time I was living on campus. De Neve is best at late night, Oh wow I forgot about late night. This event every night is crazy because it consists of a bunch of students hungry for junk food between 9pm-12am. The food consists of pizza, buffalo wings (my favorite), hot dogs, chicken nuggets, sandwiches, hamburgers, straight fries and curly fries. Covel has delicious pizza, and Hedrick has sushi sometimes. They are all the same but different in their own way. Bruin Cafe is open really late at night until 2:00am, it has great salads, soups, for example clam chowder, chicken noodle; sandwiches, smoothies, coffee, and ice cream. Cafe 1919 consists of Italian food, like paninis, pizza, GELATO, coffee, Tera Misu cake, and many other delicious italian desserts. Rendezvous, has mexican food on one side and chinese food on the other; meals are fairly big.
There is also a convenient store with cold food, and if one has a refrigerator they can warm it up. The cold food includes burritos, sandwiches, sushi, cheese, and ice cream. There are lots of snacks available at the convenient store as well.
Meal plans vary, the best one is 14 premier which is 14 meals a week and if one is not used it accumulates until the end of the quarter. These meals plans could then be used for water bottles, juice etc. Going into the dining halls costs one meal swipe, other meals at the cafes and restaurants are one swipe, coffee and a pastry are one swipe, gelato and desserts are one swipe, and smoothies are one swipe.

Great Benefits for Pre-Med Students – There are great programs available for pre-med students at the University of California-Los Angeles. Care Extenders is a great program for pre-med students; this programs allows students first hand experience around medical professions in many departments from trauma to family practice. There are many opportunities for student's in general for example student organizations for specific majors, specific religions, or just common interest. Another benefit is professor office hours, and teacher assistant office hours that allow students one on one interaction with professors. Students are able to ask many questions that may help them understand the material better. As a science major at UCLA, the best benefit is that most lectures for science classes are pod casted and video casted; I benefit greatly from this because when I was sick I missed my organic chemistry lecture which was at 8:00am. After I woke up I video casted it, and I was able to watch lecture and write all my own notes as if I was in class. This also helps students go home and re-listen to lecture at a slower pace because you can pause and rewind if needed.

There Are Many Legit Professors – I have heard that UCLA has many top professors. Many of them who graduated top notch schools and are really excellent teachers.

Recently as many have heard, there was a Caucasian female that made racist comments about Asians as seen on YouTube. How ridiculous of her since UCLA is filled with so many of them! :]

Parking at UCLA and Westwood is horrible. There are way too many students and not enough spots. However, if you live off-campus you can secure a parking spot with the building you live in. You won't really need a car on campus or around town, so the lack of parking places shouldn't be a problem.

Living in Westwood, Los Angeles – If you're not busy with schoolwork, there are a lot of recreational activities on the UCLA campus, as well as in the Westwood area. There are a variety of restaurants, clubs, and other places to have fun at. Westwood is truly a college town. You can also use the Big Blue Bus, which offers a discount to students, to travel around the Santa Monica area.

UCLA probably has the best teaching program out of all the UCs. They even have a specific Math for Teaching major which, if completed, suffices for the subject credential test for math teachers. UCLA also has the CalTEACH program, which offers classes and internships on education in the STEM subjects, as well as an opportunity to earn a Master's degree and teach at a local underprivileged high school in the Los Angeles area.

Outstanding Davis – To be honest, I was very intimidated coming here to Davis because frankly I did not know what to expect as a first generation college student. I am very glad I made the decision to come to UC Davis because so far all the classes that I have taken have been challenging, yet I have definitely taken in what I have learned from my classes. The professors here are some of the most down to earth, caring for the students and making sure that each of them get the help that they need. Class lectures are amazing, but the individual classes taught by the graduate students have really given me the help needed to do great on my midterms and final exams.

From the Things I Have Heard, Probably Average – It is probably pretty decent. Being a public university in Los Angeles, I'm sure there is a good percentage of it going on.

Labs Are Decent – There are labs available in the dorms, but the fact is that there are not many. If u want more you have to walk somewhat farther to a larger computer lab.

Wide Spectrum of Assistance Available – The main reason why I decided to attend UCLa is because it is one of the best universities to receive a psychology major. I have also discovered that although it is a very large campus there are many ways to achieve help in courses. Whether its going to a professor, forming a study group of asking a TA.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
