Mostly Two Ethnic Groups – Asians and whites are the two ethnic groups that are most seen here on campus. It is still very diverse because there are many races on campus, but those are the two ethnic groups on campus that are most seen. Religious-wise, it is a very diverse campus. Economically, you have different classes, from the high-class, "let's go party in limos every weekend" to the students who can barely eat and afford on-campus housing.

The Very Important Computer Labs – The computer labs on campus are very useful. There are multiple sites around campus that allow you to access computers and print items you need. Wireless is all over campus, which is a huge plus. Some labs even offer free printing!

Prestigious and Close to Home – I came to UCLA because it is a nationally ranked school. It currently has the biggest history department in the nation, which I am currently studying. It is also far enough for me from home to become independent, yet close enough to be able to go back on weekends.

Party All You Want – If you want to party, you can always find a party. There are clubs almost everywhere and you dont need to be 21, just 18 is good enough. And there are always people throwing parties, so no need to worry about nightlife.

Expensive but Doable – While housing in LA, especially west LA, is expensive in general, it is considerably cheaper to live off campus than on campus. By sharing an apartment with your friends, you can save a lot more money and have much more space.

Metropolitan, Fun, Big – LA is a crowded city, and UCLA is located in the lively town of Westwood. There are plenty of restaurants and shops, so you will never be bored.

Greek Students Not That Different – Besides wearing letters and occasionally being intoxicated on campus, they don't really stand out that much.

Somewhat Overhyped – While the school holds a proud record of successful athletic teams, by making it a selling point, they create certain expectations for themselves-expectations they have not been meeting recently.

Many of the programs used in the lab are outdated and could use an update, but they usually tend to get the job done. Still, old programs can sometimes be frustrating.

Need a Good Reason for a Permit – They don't let you get a permit even if you are willing to pay for it. They only allow people with jobs off campus or commuters to get one.

Guys & Girls:
Pretty Cute Girls but Everyone Is Way Too Promiscuous – Personally, I don't approve of detached and superficial sex flings, but some people are into that. There is a variety in the types of people, but the promiscuous overpower the bunch. I imagine it would be hard to really connect with someone.

Excellent Dining Quality and Options – There is tons of variety. We have multiple ethnic foods ranging from Mexican burritos and quesadillas; Chinese orange chicken and varieties of fried rice; Thai and Indian curry; Italian-style pizzas, pastas, and paninis; and your standard hamburgers, sandwiches, and wraps.

Parking on campus is based on a point system, thus freshmen have the least likelihood of receiving parking unless they commute from far away. Parking enforcement is crazy! They give tickets away as if they were giving candy out during Halloween. The price is absurd and too high-$10 for a full day. They even charge disabled drivers $3 when it should really be free! There is limited meter parking that costs way too much.

Due to UCLA being located in Westwood, there are plenty of off-campus dining options. They range from fast food to upscale restaurants.

It's a great school and a great campus. The people here are very diverse and easy to get along with. UCLA is only 30 minutes from the Santa Monica and Venice beaches (not including more). Plus, everything you possibly need is within a five-mile radius of the campus.

Drugs Scene – Drinking is probably more popular than smoking and drugs, although you do find it on campus sometimes.

Social Atmoshphere – Housing is adequate, as long as you're not expecting the Ritz. It's as best as can be expected.

Health & Safety:
Personal Safety – Being a former fan of USC, the differences in safety are day and night. I do not have to be afraid simply walking to class or being less than 10 feet off campus!

Ackerman Union-Bookstore – The student bookstore is THE place to go for anything UCLA-related. Clothing, sports stuff, etc., all can be found here. The atmosphere is great. The layout is wonderful. What more can you ask for?

Sunny CA – Although some weeks the weather in LA is sure to shock you, the campus experience is greatly affected by the weather. It is quite a walk from dorms to campus, and the lovely weather contributes to very happy students (all the patches of grass we have on campus are filled come spring quarter, really gives campus a homier feel).

Not Strict – Campus is not very strict. Protests are often welcome. There are few, if any, enforced policies that restrict one's social life.
Recent Alumnus 2010-05-01T22:49:06Z
There is a lot of drinking going on in and around the frats, but otherwise, on campus, people are very safe and sober. Smoking is not as common and usually done in private.

It's Okay – UCLA is a very well-known college, but people who want to come to UCLA have to consider that there are 300 people in one class, so that there is less interaction between professor and student.

Sunny California – The weather is amazing here in Southern California!

The transportation within UCLA is good with its campus shuttle, as well as the outside buses. It is easy to get around if you know which bus to take.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
