Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

UCLA is a school for people who want to focus mainly on education and still have an occasional night out. There is a reason that UCLA is not a party school; the classes are too difficult to slack off for any prolonged stretch of time. However, being set amidst a Greek system that thrives on throwing boisterous parties and in close proximity to a plethora of dive bars and easygoing nightlife, staying inside all the time is nearly impossible. Add all of the campus events, speakers, workshops, and free shows to the mix, and you have something of interest for everyone in the spectrum.

UCLA challenges the students in many distinct arenas. Academically, students need to be prepared to focus on their classes beginning the first day of school. Classes demand that students study every night. Socially, students are pressed to find a niche amongst a throng of 35,000 students. Student actions tend to feel minuscule in such a large student body. Fortunately, classmates are generally polite and helpful. The first year you make friends helps scale down the exorbitant number of students of the campus and form friendships that endure the college experience. The academic and social challenge that students face is enhanced because there is no school-sponsored programs outside of the dorms that bring students together. On the brighter side, this forces many students to branch out and develop social skills that they would never have learned under the guidance of such programs. Through all of its challenges, UCLA is the ideal school to come to if you want to grow into a stronger person (physically, mentally, intellectually, socially) as students are sure to learn more than just what's inside the textbooks.

Coming from the Midwest that has the worst of both worlds (sweltering, humid summers and freezing winters), Los Angeles was a shock to my system. The first 8 weeks of my first quarter at UCLA were literally straight weeks of sunny, slightly breezy, 60s to 70s. Unbelievable.

can you tell me what you did to get into this school? I know its a pretty vague question but can you just give me a model of you highschool career, so I can follow it.

Get higher than a 3.7 and higher than a 2000 SAT score. Take plenty of extracurriculars and work hard at school, find something that makes you unique.

University of California - Los Angeles Campus Housing was reviewed by olzhu
A-

Most freshman get sorted into triples that were meant to be doubles, but if you're in one of the more newly renovated (a.k.a. every one except Sproul Hall) or newly constructed residence halls (e.g. Sproul Cove), the dorm rooms are pretty nice. The communal bathrooms are cleaned twice a day, which makes them a much better option than shared bathrooms between two rooms. Sunset Village has more spacious rooms with private bathrooms, and it is the most quiet atmosphere, but there's a price tag for that serenity. De Neve Plaza is older than the residence halls, and they are also quiet with private bathrooms, but they seem to be a little more social. Avoid Hitch and Saxon Suites if at all possible. Literally run-down, bug-infested, dimly-lit suites that are not at all worth the extra money.

Physiological Science is a TOUGH major. Prepare yourself for medical school like training by various instructors who teach in very different ways for a much shorter time period than in CC's. Keep up with the work and check in with Inna Gergel the counselor of the major.

University of California - Los Angeles Diversity was reviewed by jagr0619

There are many groups that unite together to make the most of being diverse in not-too diverse campus and so it's alive within those groups but we still have a long way to go to be as prevalent within the student body.
