UCLA students can peep outside their dorm window on any given day, and chances are it'll look like summertime. Welcome to the land of sun and sand, where locals shiver when the thermometer hits 65, and light rain is considered the ultimate disaster. The consistently warm weather makes some students nostalgic for the changing seasons back home, but most giddily embrace the thought of donning tank tops in January. A pleasant breeze is always drifting through the pines, and skies are rarely dotted with clouds. December through March can get chilly, but nothing more than a long-sleeved shirt or light sweater is required.

This never-ending perfection does have a drawback: distraction. For the first and last two months of the school year, the temptation to frolic by the rec center's pool can make getting to class a battle. And with Santa Monica's beaches a bus ride away, why would anyone show up for work? Yet, with a little planning and resolve, responsible Bruins find time to savor both the top-notch weather and educational opportunities at UCLA. They also bring rain boots—20 days of rain per year means 20 days of rain per year!
