Coexistence Between Greek and Non-Greek

Non-Greek students view people in fraternities and sororities as they would persons in any other club. There isn't a sorority/fraternity row on campus for Greeks to live. If "traditional" Greek life appeals to you, you won't find it at UC Merced. However, Greek life here has many benefits since it hasn't been fully developed yet: there are more opportunities for pledges since there aren't a whole lot of people scrambling for "shadow" gigs or whatever else, you can attain a notable position in the sorority/fraternity you're interested in with some work, and absolutely no one will assume you're a big party-goer.

Effortless

The greek life is silent, there is usually nothing going on in the campus, i only saw one time in one year of a greek team performing but that was it.

Materialistic and Fake Atmosphere

The hype about Greek Life at UC Merced results in an uncomfortable atmosphere. Being that the campus is so small, you see the same people frequently. People of the Greek Life tend to feel superior to those who are not and it causes people to become arrogant and selfish. I like to stay away from Greek Life, drinking, and unnecessary drama.
