Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Considering how diverse UCM is, there is probably someone for everyone. There are good-looking guys and girls here, and they come from all over California, with many different tastes in everything from music to clothes. There are groups of students into Greek life and partying, groups into sports, and those more focused on academics. Additionally, there are many people from different ethnic backgrounds, so people are bound to find others they can relate to. Plus, since UCM is a smaller school with a more intimate setting, students find it easier to get to know others and even their crushes.

Because of UCM’s intimate setting, there are numerous students in relationships. It has become common for a student to be exclusively dating another student on campus. There’s some casual dating, as well. If students do not have a relationship with someone on campus, there’s a high chance that they have a long-distance exclusive relationship with someone from back home. Nevertheless, there are those single and ready to mingle, either at parties or campus events, as well as some students who just choose to remain single.

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

There is a high level of social interaction on campus, with students actively participating in many events hosted by numerous clubs. Students are able to bond and chill, while munching on the free food that is offered on a regular basis. There are not many rallies and protests, but when there are, a handful of students put a lot of energy into working with each other and making their voices heard. Additionally, there are mixers hosted by sororities and fraternities that students often attend, as well as cultural clubs and the gay alliance club. Students also enjoy attending the on-campus culture and talent shows on the weekends. However, students often crave these activities to compensate for the somewhat duller off-campus scene.

Hookups or Relationships?

There's a mix here in terms of relationship statuses. There is a fair share of those happily single, or single and ready to mingle. However, there are also many students who are either casually or exclusively dating someone at school. Random hookups are not particularly common here, and while there is a community college nearby, one does not often, if ever, hear about anyone dating anyone from that school. Long-distance relationships with someone back home are also fairly prevalent.

Dress Code

There are not any outrageous styles here. For class and lunch, students wear jeans and a casual top, usually along with at least a light jacket because of the varying weather. However, once summer starts up, students are in shorts, short-sleeved shirts, or tank tops (especially the girls). Girls also often wear dresses and skirts, with skirt lengths usually hitting their knees. It is common for the guys here to wear button-down shirts. The students dress pretty similarly for parties, as well, with some girls wearing shorter dresses.

Did You Know? UCM is located in the central valley/middle of California, meaning students come from as south as LA to as north as the Bay.
