Local Merced

Merced is pretty boring. It doesn't have the city feel because most of Merced is farm land. As the school is expanding the area is getting better. There are a lot of great 'hole in the wall' places but as far as the club scene or nice places to go out, there are not many.

Creative People Have Fun

If you want to find fun here, your best bet is to find your own fun. There are a few interesting things that you can find that CatTracks will take you to, but that's not fun for everyone, especially people without cars. If you're looking for something fun to do, find some good friends and get creative. Parties happen off-campus so you would need to find transportation and they aren't always worth it.

Much Needed Improvement

UC Merced is a fairly young campus (just finishing its fifth year). We only have one dining hall, and in the hall are nine different sections to choose from: the Asian food area, the blue plate (which offers pasta, main dish courses, etc), the Mexican food area, the Grill (burgers, hot dogs, fries, etc.), the Sandwich bar, the salad bar, the pizza galleria, and the Deli. I usually head to whichever I feel fits my mood, but my favorite thing on the menu is the Grilled Chicken Pesto sandwich at the Deli. It does get old, but it's something most freshmen are stuck with.
