Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Despite the constant presence of the Riverside police cars that prowl campus, UCR is remarkably lenient. Class regulations vary from professor to professor and usually regard trivialities like eating in class, electronic use, and attendance. Though too many absences can result in expulsion from a particular course, classroom rule-breaking usually affects only participation points, which raise and/or lower grade levels.

Campus-wide rules are typical of what would be expected at a university, with plagiarism and misconduct being the most severe punishable offenses. Naturally, plagiarism is the least tolerated amongst the administration, but otherwise, the staff is reasonably flexible about its policies. Alcohol is prohibited, except for official public events, and even then, a signed permit is required. Any “illegal acts” are best performed off campus and out of sight of the authorities. Just remember that the policies and police are there to provide safety and security, and obeying them will allow UCR life to pass smoothly.

Calm Campus

For the most part, I feel that all forms of authority at UCR is respected across the campus. The police, staff, and professors are available, surveying the students and maintaining a safe environment, but ultimately students are respected and I do not feel that there is an overbearing or over-controlling presence.

Police Enforcement Do No Joke Around With Safety

They are good at what they do. They email us when an incident occurs off and on campus in order for us to look after each other. They don't allow alcohol or drugs in the dorms and they do not tolerate theft and murder.
