Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The Riverside Police force stationed on campus keeps the drug scene nearly invisible; nevertheless, like at any college, there are those who still partake in drugs, but usually only in the privacy of their own homes. The majority of students who participates in the drug scene sticks to alcohol, primarily at parties and other social events, or marijuana. Illegal drugs are typically used on campus in the dorms, despite the academic consequences if caught, which can range from a fine to jail time. UCR itself has an active drug prevention campaign and offers counseling to those in need. Generally, drug users keep their habits to themselves, though “potheads” and “pill-poppers” can turn up at parties around campus.

Unfortunately, alcohol and other drugs are easily accessible to underage students, but by personal choice rather than peer pressure. Indeed, most students are of the opinion that a good social life is available without drugs or alcohol. Overall, drugs are easy to avoid at UCR and are by no means pervasive.

There Is Usage, but Peer Pressure Varies.

The drug and alcohol scene is about the same at UC Riverside. However, like at any college, drinking is at the top.

Drug Safety

The school tries to enforce drug safety but if you live in a dorm with a bad RA who doesn't care about what you do because he wants to be "cool" then you're out of luck. My hall always smelled like weed and no one did anything about it. We pretty much woke up high everyday. Other than that, the campus itself enforces drug safety.

Did You Know? Although there has been a year-to-year decline in the use of heroin, cocaine, and amphetamines among adolescents, the misuse of over-the-counter and prescription medications is a growing concern.
