College Prowler Take

Students say there are plenty of choices for off-campus dining. Most restaurants around are fast food or short-order places, like Fatburger, Starbucks, and Quizno’s. Sit-down restaurants are farther from campus and usually require driving and sometimes even searching. Student favorites include Tapioca Express and Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill.

There are many restaurants tucked away in the middle of residential areas and malls that require a half-hour ride. The best and closest places usually look like nothing from the outside, but are good on the inside—especially Chinese and Mexican restaurants. If you are brave, you can find some interesting places. Word-of-mouth also travels fast when it comes to good places to eat, so ask around if you want someplace new. Students agree that the best places are by the Tyler Mall and just outside of downtown Riverside near the train station.

If you have a car, you can eat at...

If you have a car, you can eat at really good places. Rancho has a lot of restaurants and so does Moreno Valley, but the drive can be a bit far. If you are walking around campus, your choices are really limited to fast food.

Restaurants are excellent! A Japanese restaurant called Miyako’s has wonderful sushi. There are great fast food places like Gus Jr and Baker’s that have burgers and entrees. You get discounts, too, especially at the Coco’s bakery and restaurant. If you have friends or family visiting, take them there.
