Contrary to the conception that Southern California is sunny and warm all year-round, Riverside weather can actually be quite unpredictable. During the fall and winter, the rain comes and goes, with no regard for the sun being out or not. The cooler temperatures are a blessing, though, to out-of-town students who perhaps aren’t used to the heat. In spring and summer, temperatures soar to the 90s and 100s, thankfully with rare humidity.
All UCR buildings are equipped with air conditioning and central heating, which provide relief from the sometimes unbearable temperatures. Warm weather-lovers find Riverside wonderful in spring and summer, especially with its proximity to beach cities. The mountains, too, are not far away, for those who prefer the calmer seasons of fall and winter. Generally, mornings begin cool and heat up throughout the day. Layering clothes is the easiest method of dealing with erratic weather changes. Most students recommend having a light rain jacket and umbrella for random rains, and sunscreen for sudden bursts of sunlight. Essentially, students are pleased with the overall lack of violent weather and the near-constant Southern California sunshine.

Wow Great Climate!!
You can't get it better. The weather is great most of the year. Awesome climate. The summer is the worst time with the heat but that lasts only 2 1/2 months then it's great the rest of the year. You only need a sweater!

Weather
Riverside is technically a desert, but past the first few sweltering weeks, the weather is quite calm and nice. It does get cold now and then, but rain is not normally an issue.

College Prowler guides are in the hands of students throughout the entire process. Because you can't make student-written guides without the students, we have students at each campus who write, edit, and survey their peers for every guide that we publish.
