There is very little drug use at UCSD besides marijuana. UCSD students are very conscious about studying, and oftentimes believe that drug use is detrimental to their success at school, so there are practically no hard drugs found at UCSD. Marijuana use is an entirely different story. UCSD definitely has its share of “pot heads,” and many students hardly even consider marijuana a drug. As long as they continue to do well in school, most students think of marijuana use as a common pastime.

Quite a few UCSD students expressed that they have tried marijuana a few times or are regular users, but there is no pressure to use drugs or drink at UCSD. Some students drink and smoke regularly, before and after they turn 21, others never. Some students drink regularly before and after they turn 21, making alcohol the most dominate substance on campus (though there is little peer pressure to drink). Having a designated driver is important and is probably the biggest concern at UCSD.
