Being involved with greek life is a good thing for a while. I liked the inclusion I felt but the money involved was a pain. Great place to meet people and network

I do not know very many things about the Greek life at UCSD just because I was never informed about all the possibilities around campus.

From what I could see, Greek life just means having more planned things to do.. exchanges, meetings, fundraisers, etc. Otherwise, the social life is what you make of it.

The lack of an active social scene at UCSD also results in a generally unpopular Greek system. There are a number of frats and sororities, but they do not own the social scene. The Greek system is not thought highly of, and many students are skeptical of those who are involved. Greeks are oftentimes stereotyped as being stupid, overly promiscuous, or superficial. Being involved in the Greek system takes more time and money than most students are willing to allocate.

For students who choose to join a fraternity or sorority, it tends to take up much of their free time. Students active in the Greek system report that they have developed good friendships, enjoy being more involved on campus, and have an active social life. Fraternities and sororities also participate in charitable projects on campus and around the San Diego area. For a more untraditional Greek experience, students tend to join special interest fraternities, which are often coed and based around cultural groups, religions, or majors.
