College Prowler Take
UCSD students are notorious for never thinking about safety and security—La Jolla is one of the quietest and safest cities in San Diego County. Security on campus is excellent;, and there are phones spread around campus that have a direct line to the police station, good lighting at night, and CSOs (community service officers) who will walk you anywhere on campus, all night long. For the first couple of months, UCSD can be intimidating, especially at night. Still, hardly anyone has had problems with security.
There has been a small amount of typical University crime reported at UCSD, such as petty theft, especially wallets and bikes, but generally UCSD is incredibly safe. Every year, there are reports of sexual assault, so keep an eye on your friends, particularly at parties or where there is a lot of alcohol. Some students even confess to never locking their dorm or apartment doors. The UCSD police station has done such a good job at keeping campus safe that many students forget to think about their safety at all.

With all the eucalyptus groves, it can be creepy at night. There are escort services you can call if you want someone to accompany you late at night when you are alone. Overall, neither any of my friends nor I have felt scared on campus. |

The campus is very safe. It is rare to hear about violent things happening on campus—I personally have walked through campus at five in the morning alone and felt pretty safe. |

It’s a very safe campus. I have never heard of any real incidents. There are stations with alarms everywhere on campus, should anything happen. You can also get a campus police officer to walk you back to the dorms or to your car if you’re at the library studying late night. |

Campus is very safe. They have security people who will walk you to your dorm after a late class. The service is available 24 hours a day. |

Security on campus has always seemed excellent to me. We’re located in a pretty quiet area of San Diego, which helps a lot, but there is also a good campus security system. I feel comfortable walking by myself at night, and there are emergency phones located around campus that go straight to campus police, in case you should ever have a problem. |

Records show that the most frequent crime on campus is stolen bikes. So if you plan to bring a bike to school, don’t forget a bike lock, as well.
