College Prowler Take

The public transportation around UCSD and La Jolla is convenient for students. It is easy to catch a city bus or UCSD shuttle to campus, the grocery store, or the beach. Students also get a free bus sticker, which will take them around La Jolla and other areas of San Diego for free. There are also free shuttles to the airport and the train station before holidays. The UCSD City Shuttle runs in a loop around La Jolla, picking students up from their apartments and taking them to school. The San Diego city buses and the UCSD shuttles often get crowded in the morning and afternoon when students are trying to get to school or home, but they are usually quick and on time.

Public transportation around the rest of San Diego is neither convenient nor quick. The buses do not come regularly, and you usually have to transfer at least once to get to your destination. The airport and the train station are about 10 miles away from UCSD, and taking public transportation to them can be time consuming. Overall, students agree having a car is not necessary, especially if you plan on staying in La Jolla, but traveling around the rest of San Diego is difficult without your own car or a roommate willing to drive you around.

Public transportation is very good. There is a campus loop that goes around the whole campus and comes around every 15 minutes. There are also off-campus buses that come around every 5-10 minutes that can take you anywhere else.

Getting around campus on the shuttles is easy and all of the public buses that run through campus are free for students, so that is a plus. However, getting anywhere off campus takes a bit of time, even on the bus, because we aren't close to a whole lot.

It’s easy to get around La Jolla, UCSD and other nearby places using public transportation, but it is not very convenient. It is hard when there isn’t a direct route and you have to transfer buses.

Buses are abundant, and as a student you get around free within a certain radius. On campus, you have the shuttles that take you all over, too. There is also some sort of trolley that goes into Mexico and to Qualcomm Stadium for games.
