In both Isla Vista and downtown there is always a lot going on, and everyone has a great time. Everything is close enough that you could bus or walk.

There are a wide variety of Frats and sororities and they are for the most part very fun and laid back, pledging is tough, but once you get in they treat you well. The houses range from well kept to gross, but it all depends on which group you join.

I applied as undeclared, and got in very easily, but as a student in this position it is diffucult to get the classes that I'm interested in, there are restrictions on a lot of courses that make it hard to find what you want.
College Freshman 2013-11-23T20:46:10Z
Workload is diffucult in the science fields, and a vast majority of it is busywork. The diffuculty of some of the courses has caused many students I know to change their majors.

Health & Safety:
On campus everyone feels very safe, but in Isla Vista the atmosphere is a lot more harsh, and can sometimes feel threatening. However the foot patrol cops there are very present and prevent a lot of crime before it occurs.
College Freshman 2013-11-23T20:35:20Z
The busses run almost 24/7, will take you anywhere, and most drivers are helpful and good to students. We are provided with free bus transportation as part of being a student and because of this the busses are usually full of other students, making the atmosphere friendly and safe.

The recreational facilities are great and full of nice, reliable equipment, and competitive sports get a lot of support from the student body.
College Freshman 2013-11-23T20:31:23Z
The campus is very laid back and understanding so long as your activities don't disrupt those around you. They do crack down on plagiarism, most teachers use sites like turnitin for large papers ect.

Our college is very open about the party scene, and many students participate, but the campus and many student organizations organize constant events for students who want to get away from the party scene. In the dorms the no drugs/ no alcohol policy is enforced relatively well but in Isla Vista there is little to no enforcement.
College Freshman 2013-11-23T20:25:17Z
Parking around here is limited and costs more than its worth, but in this atmosphere having a car doesn't give students much of an advantage. Its very easy and time effective to bike around campuses, and we are provided with free bussing as a part of tuition, which makes it extremely easy to get around without a car.
College Freshman 2013-11-23T20:22:54Z
The school as whole is extremely liberal, and our student body is one of the most diverse in california. We have a good amount of international students and out of states, as well as a wide range of economic backgrounds.
College Freshman 2013-11-23T20:17:51Z
Its freezing in the mornings and nights, but turns into a sauna during the day. If you have early classes, its very difficult to wear something warm enough to bike to school in that you will still be comfortable wearing when it heats up later.

The culture and life of the area in goleta and Santa Barbara are both simply great, the people are extremely considerate to UCSB students and I feel welcome wherever I go. The local shops and restaurants are all pleasant and affordable, and many of them hire students regularly. In Isla Vista no holiday goes uncelebrated and everyone has a great time.

It is more than mediocre. It is between okay and good.
College Junior 2013-11-23T00:49:04Z
The computer availability and wifi is acceptable.
College Junior 2013-11-23T00:47:31Z
Terrible. The parking is so far from your classes. Isla Vista was not created with the intent of street parking, so that is a mess. It is an overall disaster.
College Junior 2013-11-23T00:46:21Z
It is not a school with a lot of people like me in it. I did find a few great people that I can't imagine my college experience without, but a lot of the culture is about drinking and partying, which I am not into.
College Freshman 2013-11-21T19:18:25Z
There are several hardcore drugs that are present on campus and in IV, and alcohol is abundant. It is actually pretty easy to avoid though if you are a sober student.
College Freshman 2013-11-21T19:17:11Z
Haha, are you kidding? The weather is always spectacular. Between 70s and 80s most of the year, and the fog burns off early into sunshine.
College Freshman 2013-11-21T19:15:25Z
You won't find a better college nightlife than the one you find at UCSB and Isla Vista. There are always parties and late-night food options in town, and a variety of party types as well. Something to do every night, whether on campus or in IV.
College Freshman 2013-11-21T03:50:03Z
There is no friendlier place than Isla Vista and Santa Barbara! The beach is beautiful, and the variety is awesome.
College Freshman 2013-11-21T03:48:42Z
The cops and administration are very lenient on many issues, especially regarding alcohol
College Freshman 2013-11-21T03:46:49Z
Many different cultures and nations represented here.
College Freshman 2013-11-21T03:45:50Z
The food is good, and there are great vegetarian and vegan options
