Campus Strictness

Quick Stats

Students Are Most Likely to Get Caught...
  • Drinking
  • Stealing a bike

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Campus strictness varies a bit since the campus police are entirely different from the Isla Vista Foot Patrol. The campus police patrol campus, but students who aren’t out-of-control or having really loud parties don’t have to worry about them too much. Off campus, the Isla Vista Foot Patrol allows big parties, but as soon as it hits midnight, and they see kegs in plain view or a foot hits the sidewalk while holding an open container, they become very strict. IVFP are also known for writing tickets for biking under the influence, being a minor in possession, or being drunk in public. The University notifies parents of tickets students recieve by sending them a copy in the mail.

As far as cheating and plagiarism, some professors are extremely adamant about checking essays and creating multiple copies of tests. Definitely do not attempt to cheat or plagiarize because you will most likely get caught, and depending on your professor, you could face major repercussions. If you take care of yourself and stay in control, you’ll be absolutely fine and never have a run-in with the Foot Patrol or the Campus Conduct Boards.

Look the Other Way

Many campus employees tend to ignore the underage drinking. I mean SB is known to be a party school and they cant do anything about Isla Vista, thats for the police to do.

Choose Your Vice

Strictness all depends on the activity.

Don't want to attend class? Nobody will notice, unless they have iClicker questions (hint: don't take these classes).

Want to drink underage? Go into Isla Vista, and drink indoors, and you're fine. The dorms are iffy - sometimes the RAs and CSOs might care enough to "document" you, but it's not a big deal. Open containers in public are a sure way to get a ticket from IVFP though, so don't go that route.

Want to cheat on tests? Well, if you get caught you're in big big trouble, so I wouldn't try it.
