Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Overall, the facilities at UCSC are great. Students find them to be more than sufficient to fulfill their everyday needs, and it is hard to find unhappy students. Although the “freshman 15” is still a known concern, most students find it easy and fun to hit the gym or go for a nice swim in the Olympic-sized swimming pool, which has become a solution to the stress-eating that some students may stumble upon. The Porter/Kresge Dining Hall and College 8 Café have been renovated, and the Cowell/Stevenson Dining Hall has been completely rebuilt. And dining is not the only thing that students will doing in new facilities. The McHenry Library and the Student Health Center are also being renovated.

The fields on campus are beautiful, well kept, and home to UCSC’s best views. Students often enjoy taking walks, jogs, runs, and skips to the East Field to enjoy the nice warm weather and the breathtaking view of Monterey Bay. UCSC has two gyms where students can participate in basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, martial arts, dancing, racquetball, and almost anything else that involves physical activity. Although the gyms do not hold many people and are barely larger than an average high school gym, they are a good escape from the hustle and bustle of college work.

Facilities Are Great

The new McHenry library is awesome! The catalog is easy to search and there is a wide variety of materials available. There are plenty of great cafes on campus, I just wish they all accepted debit/credit cards. Bathrooms are generally clean and use eco-friendly toilets, sinks and dryers.

Phenomenal

From the gym you can see an overview of the city and the ocean, it's really nice during the day and night. They have every device you'd need and the track is pretty good to run on too.

The library is awesome and I do most of my homework in the computer labs because I like them so much.

Gymnasium

One of the gyms in my college in UC Santa Cruz is very nice, It has a very nice basketball court--that doubles as an indoor soccer field. It is right next to a cafe and dining hall, so it is very well located .

Facts

Favorite Things To Do

It is fairly easy to find things to do on campus. Most students fill time by taking nice walks through the forest, studying, throwing around a Frisbee, or hanging out in one of the many coffee shops or lounges.

Some student favorites include playing billiards at Joe’s, going on adventures to the Porter Caves or Tree Nine, and hiking through the Music Center trails and the campus farm.

Did You Know?

According to the EPA, UCSC is the sixth-largest campus purchaser of “green power” in the country—the University buys enough renewable power certificates to offset 100 percent of the electricity that powers the campus.
