College Prowler Take
Overall, the facilities at UCSC are great. Students find them to be more than sufficient to fulfill their everyday needs, and it is hard to find unhappy students. Although the “freshman 15” is still a known concern, most students find it easy and fun to hit the gym or go for a nice swim in the Olympic-sized swimming pool, which has become a solution to the stress-eating that some students may stumble upon. The Porter/Kresge Dining Hall and College 8 Café have been renovated, and the Cowell/Stevenson Dining Hall has been completely rebuilt. And dining is not the only thing that students will doing in new facilities. The McHenry Library and the Student Health Center are also being renovated. The fields on campus are beautiful, well kept, and home to UCSC’s best views. Students often enjoy taking walks, jogs, runs, and skips to the East Field to enjoy the nice warm weather and the breathtaking view of Monterey Bay. UCSC has two gyms where students can participate in basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, martial arts, dancing, racquetball, and almost anything else that involves physical activity. Although the gyms do not hold many people and are barely larger than an average high school gym, they are a good escape from the hustle and bustle of college work.

There are two athletic facilities...
There are two athletic facilities on campus, and one of them has a 1.5-mile jogging track, three soccer fields, tennis courts, pools, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, racquetball courts, a full-sized gym, and martial arts rooms. The other athletic facility is smaller but you can find basketball, tennis, soccer and, I think, racquetball there, too. The campus is not laid out in straight roads, so in the beginning it might not make sense, but you will get used to it and learn all the secret paths through the middle. The layout has a very organic feel because they made sure that when they built it, they would disrupt the landscape as little as possible.

The athletic center could be...
The athletic center could be bigger, but for its size, it is definitely well equipped. There is a beautiful dance studio over at the Rec Center, as well as two more at Theater Arts. They are all very nice and well taken care of. Some of the computers in the libraries are outdated, but in the computer labs the computers are good. |

There’s a new physical fitness...
There’s a new physical fitness facility, with a good pool and athletic field. We have a new bookstore and the surrounding area may host a new student center. Overall, the campus is a bit too spread out for a good, effective student center. It just wouldn’t be fair to students who live further away. The Science Library is great place to study. |

The facilities on campus are...
The facilities on campus are pretty good. We have great facilities, and a new gym that is free to all students. There’s a nice track overlooking the ocean and a big field on campus. The computer labs are pretty up-to-date, with student assistants in them at all times to help you when you need assistance. I didn’t use the student center much in prior years because the location was bad, but they just moved it, and it’s now a great resource. |
