Unfortunately my major is pretty much solely offered online for the last two years. I think there are certain aspects of my major that can really help with grad schools and experience. There are some classes that relate to the area one would want to end up in the future. The workload for some classes is a lot, but the online classes are somewhat of a joke.

I recently graduated from the Hospitality college (and now I'm continuing my education at UCF) and it was a fantastic experience. My professors were great mentors who truly cared about my academic and professional success. The curriculum provided great scenarios about the hospitality industry and it prepares students for their future.

There are many local bars around UCF, but none are really walking distance without having to cross a major street intersection. I think UCF should get a night bus and pick students up from spots around campus and drop them off at the bars. The local bar scene is the same at all the bars, there are a lot of underage people that go in and they do not care about fake ID's. The bars are usually really crowded and the bathrooms are gross.

I do not like how UCF offers online classes for core classes in one's major. I think that they are more interested in becoming a bigger business, rather then an established university. The school cares more about money and getting the number of students up then actually helping students one-on-one. There needs to be advisors that actually know what they are talking about and help the students during the registration times.

Nightlife for students is seen around the area of University of Central Florida, its for students who are 21 or older, while there are some exceptions to a few night clubs for 18 and older. Transportation is excellent--cabs, shuttle buses, designated driver, you name it. My best suggestion is to use those nightlife off campus once or twice a month and use the house parties given on-campus. Its free, and you don't have to worry about transportation. Plus its safe with all the other great activities the campus has to offer with friends who live on campus!

Any school that you attend and depending who you hang out with, the people are going to do drugs, but its not noticeable. If the people who are doing drugs, it would be those smoking around campus and away from the students who don't smoke, while drinking is away from the campus life its a much more popular usage.

The food and the dining has a lot to offer on campus. The food prices that University of Central Florida has to offer is reasonable enough for the student who is on financial needs. When you need to eat something between classes, you'll find the variety of food you can choose, nothing to complain about. For me I would suggest to bring your own meal, you save money, and you won't get tired of eating the same thing for the most day!

Health & Safety:
While the UCF Police department contains fully certified police officers, there have been way too many incidences of theft and assault in and around the UCF area. This has mainly to do with the general state of Orlando's crime ratio than it does with UCF's efforts to combat threats. UCF is actually very on top of alerting students when an emergency is afoot. We receive severe weather alerts, crime alerts, and traffic alerts via text message and e-mail. They also just recently installed a brand new security alert system across campus which emits a high pitched noise whenever there is an emergency. UCF cops WILL give you a crosswalk ticket if you violate the crosswalk laws. WAIT FOR THE LIGHT - it isn't worth the $63 fine. Also, there have been multiple pedestrian-related accidents over the past few years ESPECIALLY near the gym. Just be careful and know your rights. The health of the student body is extremely good, though. We have multiple health-related organizations that offer free health check-ups and such. The health center is open every day of the week & we have actual doctors available. The rec and wellness center also supports the nutrition and physical fitness of each student. There are plenty of opportunities to stay in shape for free. Furthermore, UCF has one of the BEST abuse and victim support systems in the county. There are multiple on-campus hotlines to call should you need help in that area.

UCF is KNOWN nationwide for its diversity. Diversity is even included in our creed - something you learn the first day of orientation and see on posters, syllabi, and pretty much everywhere else on campus. We have all sorts of students from various age groups, religions, and races. UCF prides itself on being a student body committed to pursuing opportunities. We have hundreds of clubs designated for specific groups and there are constantly events (especially football games) where the student population comes together for the greater good. Feeling singled out should never be an issue with so much diversity. Personally, I have only ever felt like I was an integral part of UCF's population. Whether in the classroom or just walking across campus, it is easy to see a smiling face and even easier to know that you are cherished at the university.

Nightlife in Orlando is complicated. Once you find your sweet spot, you probably won't go too many other places. A few of my favorite places have closed down but usually re-open under new management the following semester. Be aware of the massive hoards that flock during drink special nights. If you can spare the mileage (and are over the age of 21), downtown Orlando is great for the bar scene. Stuff near school tends to get sloppy after a while. Look out for sticky floors and groping strangers. If you just want to dance (underage crowd), the clubs near school are good during the week or on Fridays.

UCF is widely diverse in it population. That's what I love about it. That's also why I think students learn to be more open minded and accepting here. Some probably struggled with pre-conceived ideas because of the way they were brought up to think, but overall, I think most of the students are accepting of differences. We are a family at UCF. Of course, like anywhere, we have our differences in opinion and may disagree, but it has nothing to do with someone's racial or ethnic background. We learn from one another. I love that about being in college. My eyes have been opened to so many different ideas, customs, and values. This has been an experience of a lifetime.

There is something to do every night if you want to! Anything from parties to just hanging out with a group. Off campus tons of things to do too! Really safe and secure around here. Always go in groups though, just to be sure. Great music, bands here too. Soriority/frat parties are awesome!

It's confusing at first. You really have to look for guidance when you are a Freshman. I know the aid is there, it's just difficult to know how to go about getting it. Most of what I know I got by word of mouth from students. It's a little intimidating going into their office! The best advice I can give, is that if you are going to school in a state that offers it's own scholarships based on your high school GPA, do your FASFA early and get that money! For example, Florida has the Bright Futures, but you have to get your FASFA done by May 15 every year! Remind your parent, if applicable. They have to fill out a part of it as well. Even if you don't quality for a Pell Grant, you are eligible for other monies. Fastweb is the best place to find simple, easy scholarships. It rocks!

Guys & Girls:
Everyone is friendly and approachable. I've met so many people that I know will be my friends for a very long time. The University promotes a community feeling and a large percentage of the students are fully engaged. We are a family. The guys are respectful and fun to just hang out with! I will miss all of them when we graduate! There is a variety of people at UCF, but we are all in it together. It's great. Easy to make friends.

There are no drug scenes or anything of that matter, in fact there are a lot of different resources for those who actually may have a problem with one of these substances.

There are several different activities for students to participate in at night, some educational some just to have fun and relax.

The freshmen dorms range and vary between the different choices available to students. The dorms are a decent size and if you have the option of a single room I would suggest to get that because it can get cramped if you share with another student.
College Senior 2013-06-07T19:48:43Z
Public transportation here is decent. The buses are very well kept and get you where you need to go in a good time. The thing I would change is how often they come to stops because sometimes its unreliable. They either come right after the other or long breaks in between.
College Senior 2013-06-07T19:43:54Z
I received a good amount of financial aid. They try their best to meet the needs of the students and the forms that need to be turned in are fairly easy to comprehend. I believe for improvements on their part they can email appointments to avoid clutters of people.

Computer labs are usually full but people move through them pretty fast. Printing is easy on campus. wireless stinks in dorm room, have to be wired up through computer or it goes too slow.

the campus life is great...there is so much to do, one has to be careful and not get behind on studies, The professors are great and willing to assist if asked.

drug scene is campus wide. If someone wants to find some they won't have a problem doing so. Drinks is drug of choice.

Usually nice and sunny with winds. Not too cold. Don't need a heavy coat. But do need an umbrella for the rain.
